Stress Analysis of Circular Semimonocoque Cylinders With Cutouts

Description: "A method is presented for analyzing the stresses about cutouts in circular semimonocoque cylinders with flexible rings. The method involves the use of so-called perturbation stress distributions which are superposed on the stress distribution that would exist in the structure with no cutout in such a way as to give the effects of a cutout. The method can be used for any loading case for which the structure without the cutout can be analyzed and is sufficiently versatile to account for stringer… more

Stress Analysis of Circular Semimonocoque Cylinders With Cutouts by a Perturbation Load Technique

Description: "A method is presented for analyzing the stresses about a cutout in a circular cylinder of semimonocoque construction. The method involves the use of so-called perturbation solutions which are superposed on the stress distribution that would exist in the structure with no cutout in such a way as to give the effects of a cutout. The method can be used for any loading case for which the structure without the cutout can be analyzed and is sufficiently versatile to account for stringer and shear re… more

Analysis of the Creep Behavior of a Square Plate Loaded in Edge Compression

Description: From Introduction: "In reference 1 results of creep tests and empirical method for predicting collapse times are presented for plates loaded in compression on two opposite edges and with the remaining edges unloaded and supported in V-groove fixtures. Other approximate methods for handling plates having types of edge support are suggested in reference 2; however, experimental verification for these methods is quite limited. In reference 3 an analysis based on small-deflection theory is made of … more

Torsional Stiffness of Thin-Walled Shells Having Reinforcing Cores and Rectangular, Triangular, or Diamond Cross Section

Description: A theoretical investigation is presented of the torsional stiffness of thin-walled aerodynamic surfaces filled with cores which stabilize the skins. Rectangular, slender triangular, and slender diamond cross sections are considered. Results for the torsional stiffness constants are shown graphically.

Torsional Stiffness of Thin-Walled Shells Having Reinforcing Cores and Rectangular, Triangular, or Diamond Cross Section

Description: "A theoretical investigation has been made of the Saint-Venant torsion of certain composite bars. These bars are composed of two materials -- one material in the form of a thin-walled cylindrical shell and the other material in the form of a core which fills the interior of the shell and is bonded to it. An approximate boundary-value problem is formulated on assumptions similar to those of the theory of torsion of hollow thin-walled shells (Bredt theory)" (p. 771).

Tables of Coefficients for the Analysis of Stresses About Cutouts in Circular Semimonocoque Cylinders with Flexible Rings

Description: Note presenting tables of coefficients which facilitate the stress analysis of circular semimonocoque cylinders with cutouts by the method published in a previous report. When the values of two simple structural parameters are known, use of the coefficients enables shear flows and stringer loads in the neighborhood of a cutout to be calculated.

Comparison Between Theoretical and Experimental Stresses in Circular Semimonocoque Cylinders With Rectangular Cutouts

Description: "Comparisons are made between a theory for calculating stresses about rectangular cutouts in circular cylinders of semimonocoque construction published in NACA-TN-3200 and previously published NACA experimental data. The comparisons include stresses in the stringers and shear stresses in the center of the shear panels in the neighborhood of the cutout. The theory takes into account the bending flexibility of the rings in the structure, and this factor is found to be important in the calculation… more

A variational theorem for creep with applications to plates and columns

Description: From Summary: "A variational theorem is presented for a body undergoing creep. Solutions to problems of creep bending and creep collapse of plates, columns, beams, and shells can be obtained by means of the direct methods of the calculus of variations in conjunction with the stated theorem. The application of the theorem is illustrated for plates and columns by the solution of two sample problems."
