McCarter writes that he has reviewed the draft of the National Arts Standards, paying close attention to the implication for aesthetics in art. Describing his recent trip to Canada, McCarter mentions that many presentations encountered the same problems in identifying common traits found in art. McCarter continues to say he does not see the dilemma in using the word aesthetic as it means various things to different people.

Description: Photocopy of a letter template from Bill McCarter to Advisory Committee Members, thanking for agreeing to serve on the committee for the North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. The Institute is excited to have E.A. Carmean, Director of the Ft. Worth Modern Art Museum, serve as chair of the committee. Their first scheduled meeting will be a luncheon on May 25, 1990 at the University Union. Included with the letter was a map of the University, showing their guests where they will be able to park the day of the meeting. The map is not present with the letter.

To discuss the hard work done by a number of Art Specialists in Hurst-Euless-Bedford district, and that Pam Stephens took leadership and excelled in planning the 1992 Institute. As HEB ISD goes forward to build their budget for the next two years, McCarter writes if it is possible to build additional compensation for a position similar to one Pam had assumed that year, the goals of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts is that districts take on leadership in planning and holding their own Institutes. Enclosed with the letter are two invoices.

In regards to a proposal Westside has made to the U.S. Department of Education "Challenge Grants for Technology in Education," a collaboration between Westside and Prairie Visions. McCarter writes that the document is of interest to North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts because Prairie Visions is a regional institute supported by matching funds from the Getty Institute, LA while NTIEVA is a sister regional located in Texas. The two Getty Center sponsored programs will participate with one another in the implications of the proposal.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Gail Davit. In regards of scheduling a two-week summer institute at the Dallas Museum of Art teachers in the Dallas Independent School District. McCarter is hoping that the DMA could provide a laboratory for the fellows to have a "capstone" experience that would benefit the DMA, NTIEVA, DISD and the Marcus Foundation from such a collaboration. An issue McCarter addresses is finding the money to pay the teachers for attending, possibly a shared cost between the district and NTIEVA, he ends the letter saying many details have to be worked out. A cover sheet is at the end of the faxed letter.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Raymond Nasher, The Nasher Company. Mentioning a meeting, that Nasher chaired on, which energized the entire faculty and how disappointed McCarter is, because of scheduling conflicts, that Nasher will be unable to participate in the leadership retreat scheduled for June 1. McCarter also mentions literature that he forwarded to Nasher and hopes the he understands the enthusiasm for the concepts behind the NTIEVA's projects. McCarter then mentions that Dallas I.S.D. was unable to continue as a consortium district because of finalized details, yet McCarter hopes to reactivate Dallas after meeting with Howard Dunn and conversing with Janice Wiggins. McCarter ends the letter expressing concern about funding for the Institute. Copied on the letter is Rick Brettell.

In regards of McCarter's enthusiasm for the presentation regarding "The Wanderers," and mentions David Coffey doing a superb job amplifying the content written by Andrew Harris. McCarter says that it is imperative that art teachers at both an elementary and secondary level be exposed to excellent presentations and that Georgia Blades is working with the program for Texas Art Education Fall Meeting in Fort Worth, hoping that Holland and Blades could connect for a repeat presentation to the members of TAEA. Enclosed in the letter to Holland, McCarter has sent a newsletter of the National Art Education Association, for Holland to get a feeling of strength from the teacher organization.
