Analyses of Wind Energy Impact on WFEC System Operations

Description: Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC) is a generation and transmission Cooperative in Oklahoma. At the end of 2003 it added 74 megawatts (MW) of wind energy to its energy portfolio by purchasing the output of the Blue Canyon Wind Power Project located north of Lawton, Oklahoma. The wind energy has the potential to provide about 6% of WFEC's peak summer energy demand. During periods of high winds and low loads, wind energy may represent 14% of the control area load. Conversely during perio… more

Role of Glycolytic Intermediates in Global Regulation and Signal Transduction. Final Report

Description: The goal of this project is to determine the role of glycolytic intermediates in regulation of cell physiology. It is known that many glycolytic intermediates are involved in regulation of enzyme activities at the kinetic level. However, little is known regarding the role of these metabolites in global regulation and signal transduction. This project aims to investigate the role of glycolytic intermediates in the regulation of gene expression.

Role of glycolytic intermediate in regulation: Improving lycopene production in Escherichia coli by engineering metabolic control

Description: Metabolic engineering in the postgenomic era is expected to benefit from a full understanding of the biosynthetic capability of microorganisms as a result of the progress being made in bioinformatics and functional genomics. The immediate advantage of such information is to allow the rational design of novel pathways and the elimination of native reactions that are detrimental or unnecessary for the desired purpose. However, with the ability to manipulate metabolic pathways becoming more effect… more

Grand Challenges for Biological and Environmental Research: A Long-Term Vision

Description: The interactions and feedbacks among plants, animals, microbes, humans, and the environment ultimately form the world in which we live. This world is now facing challenges from a growing and increasingly affluent human population whose numbers and lifestyles are driving ever greater energy demand and impacting climate. These and other contributing factors will make energy and climate sustainability extremely difficult to achieve over the 20-year time horizon that is the focus of this report. De… more
