Measurement of the differential cross section at 3, 4, 5, 6 GeV/c for the reactions $pi$$sup -$p $Yields$ K$sup 0$$lambda$$sup 0$ and $pi$$sup -$p $Yields$ K$sup 0$$Sigma$$sup 0$ and of $lambda$$sup 0$ polarization at 5 GeV/c

Description: Thesis. Submitted to Chicago Univ., Ill. Dept. of Physics. The differential cross section in the reaction pi /sup -/p yields K/sup o/ LAMBDA / su p o/ pi /sup -/p yields K/sup o/ SIGMA /sup o/ was measured at incident beam momenta of 3, 4 and 6 GeV/c and at momentum transfers to t approximates - 2.0. The polarization of LAMBDA /sup o/ was also measured at 5 GeV/c using the parity violating decay LAMBDA /sup o/ yields p pi /sup -/. Wire spark chambers with magnetostrictive readout, scintillators… more

Search for. lambda. anti. lambda. heavy states at ISA

Description: The possibility of observing ..lambda..anti..lambda.. heavy states using the Isabelle storage rings is discussed. Not many particles are known to date to decay into ..lambda..anti..lambda... The J/psi is a notable exception, with a branching ratio of about 0.2% (vs. 7% into e/sup +/e/sup -/ and ..mu../sup +/..mu../sup -/). However, it is not inconceivable that higher mass states, produced at Isabelle energies, will have substantial branching fractions into ..lambda..anti..lambda... If this will… more
