B Physics Working Group Summary

Description: Calculations of the B{sub c} spectrum of energy levels, transitions between levels, and weak decays of the ground state, as well as their production and observation at hadron colliders, are summarized. Also, recent experimental B Physics results from the CDF and D0 Tevatron experiments are reviewed and future prospects are discussed.

Microwave Transmission Through the Electron Cloud at the Fermilab Main Injector: Simulation and Comparison with Experiment

Description: Simulations of the microwave transmission properties through the electron cloud at the Fermilab Main Injector have been implemented using the plasma simulation code 'VORPAL'. Phase shifts and attenuation curves have been calculated for the lowest frequency TE mode, slightly above the cutoff frequency, in field free regions, in the dipoles and quadrupoles. Preliminary comparisons with experimental results for the dipole case are showed and will guide the next generation of experiments.

Recent studies of dispersion matched steering for the ILC bunch compressor and main linac

Description: The Dispersion Matched Steering (DMS) method is studied in detail in the context of a curved main linac. In the absence of cavity tilts (rotations in the YZ plane), DMS provides a unique and stable solution with negligible emittance growth. If cavity tilts are about 300 {micro}rad, the algorithm is not very robust. The emittance growth through the entire linac for positrons is about 5 nm, if the system is strictly static and statistical averaging can be used to improve beam position measurement… more

Tune measurement methods of the Tevatron

Description: We will discuss several methods for measuring the tunes in the Tevatron. These methods can be separated into three classes: active, passive and hybrid. In the active method, the beam is tickled in order to obtain a frequency response. In the passive method, a Schottky detector which uses a resonant stripline is used to measure the Schottky spectrum of the beam. In the hybrid method, we tickle the beam using kickers, or the Tevatron Electron Lens (TEL) in order to bring the tune signal above the… more

Accurate simulation of the electron cloud in the Fermilab Main Injector with VORPAL

Description: Precision simulations of the electron cloud at the Fermilab Main Injector have been studied using the plasma simulation code VORPAL. Fully 3D and self consistent solutions that includes E.M. field maps generated by the cloud and the proton bunches have been obtained, as well detailed distributions of the electron's 6D phase space. We plan to include such maps in the ongoing simulation of the space charge effects in the Main Injector. Simulations of the response of beam position monitors, retard… more

Accurate simulation of the electron cloud in the Fermilab Main Injector with VORPAL

Description: We present results from a precision simulation of the electron cloud (EC) in the Fermilab Main Injector using the code VORPAL. This is a fully 3d and self consistent treatment of the EC. Both distributions of electrons in 6D phase-space and E.M. field maps have been generated. This has been done for various configurations of the magnetic fields found around the machine have been studied. Plasma waves associated to the fluctuation density of the cloud have been analyzed. Our results are compared… more

A Betatron tune fitting package for the Tevatron 21.4 MHz Schottky

Description: The Fermilab Tevatron is equipped with two independent Schottky monitors for measurement of betatron tunes, one operating at 21.4 MHz and the other at 1.7 GHz. A new front-end and related data acquisition for the 21.4 MHz resonator has been installed and commissioned during the FY04 Collider RunII. Sophisticated fitting strategies are required to analyze the spectra. Optimization of this fitting package allows us to report tune and chromaticity measurements at almost 1 Hz.

A comparison and benchmark of two electron cloud packages

Description: We present results from precision simulations of the electron cloud (EC) problem in the Fermilab Main Injector using two distinct codes. These two codes are (i)POSINST, a F90 2D+ code, and (ii)VORPAL, a 2D/3D electrostatic and electromagnetic code used for self-consistent simulations of plasma and particle beam problems. A specific benchmark has been designed to demonstrate the strengths of both codes that are relevant to the EC problem in the Main Injector. As differences between results obtai… more

Benchmarking / Crosschecking DFS in the ILC Main Linac

Description: In an effort to compare beam dynamics and create a ''benchmark'' for Dispersion Free Steering (DFS) a comparison was made between different ILC simulation programs while performing DFS. This study consisted of three parts. First, a simple betatron oscillation was tracked through each code. Secondly, a set of component misalignments and corrector settings generated from one program was read into the others to confirm similar emittance dilution. Thirdly, given the same set of component misalignme… more
