Void-gas stripping in standpipes

Description: A model of a packed-bed void-gas stripping section in a standpipe has been developed. This relative-velocity model allows the determination of the best stripper design for a particular application. This model was developed from the results of a void-gas stripping study using a nitrogen/oxygen gas system. The effects of stripping gas injection, particle size, particle density, stripper diameter, and solids flow rate on the amount of gas needed to strip were investigated. An example of how to des… more

Determination of flow-regime boundaries for cohesive particles

Description: The overall objective of this program is the development of a hydrodynamic model to predict the choking/non-choking flow regime boundary of fine, cohesive (i.e., Geldart Group C) powders. Specific objectives are to: (1) Develop a two-dimensional hydrodynamic model that can be applied to cohesive solids. (2) Generate large-scale solids-flows data that will be used to verify the model.

Determination of Flow-Regime Boundaries for Cohesive Particles

Description: The overall objective of this program is the development of a hydrodynamic model to predict the choking/non-choking flow regime boundary of fine, cohesive (that is, Geldart Group C) powders. Specific objectives are to: 1. Develop a two-dimensional hydrodynamic model that can be applied to cohesive solids. 2. Generate large-scale solids-flow data that will be used to verify the model. 3 refs., 33 figs., 1 tab.

Pressurized Fluidized-Bed Hydroretorting of Eastern Oil Shales. Progress report, October--December 1988

Description: The Devonian oil shales of the Eastern United States are a significant domestic energy resource. The overall objective of the 3-year program, initiated in October 1987 is to perform the research necessary to develop the pressurized fluidized-bed hydroretorting (PFH) process for producing oil from Eastern oil shales. The program also incorporates research on technologies in areas such as raw shale preparation, beneficiation, product separation, and waste disposal that have the potential of impro… more

Determination of Flow-regime Boundaries for Cohesive Particles. Final Report, September 20, 1988--March 31, 1992

Description: Cohesive particles (Geldart Group C powders) are fine particles generally less than 30 microns in size. Interparticle forces are large relative to inertial forces in these particles, and cause clumping, sticking, and channeling when attempts are made to fluidize them. These solids do not flow easily through pipes, and bridge extremely easily. The objectives of the work in this program were (1) to develop a hydrodynamic model which can be applied to cohesive solids, and (2) to obtain data in a l… more
