Neutron profile refinement of the structure of FeOCl and FeOCl(TTF)/sub 1/8. 5/

Description: Neutron diffraction studies on powder samples of FeOCl and FeOCl(TTF)/sub 1/8.5/ establish that TTF intercalated into FeOCl contributes to the diffraction pattern and exhibits long range order. Room-temperature time-of-flight diffraction results are reported. 23 refs., 8 figs., 5 tabs.

The Novel Synthesis of Silicon and Germanium Nanocrystallites

Description: Interest in the synthesis of semiconductor nanoparticles has been generated by their unusual optical and electronic properties arising from quantum confinement effects. We have synthesized silicon and germanium nanoclusters by reacting Zintl phase precursors with either silicon or germanium tetrachloride in various solvents. Geometric Frustration in the Mixed Layer Pnictide Oxides

Description: The authors present results from a Monte Carlo investigation of a simple bilayer model with geometrically frustrated interactions similar to those found in the mixed layer pnictide oxides (Sr{sub 2}Mn{sub 3}Pn{sub 2}O{sub 2}, Pn = As, Sb). The model is composed of two inequivalent square lattices with nearest-neighbor intra- and interlayer interactions. XPS Studies of Yb14MnSb11 and Yb14ZnSb11

Description: Measurements of core and valence electronic states of single crystals of the rare earth transition metal Zintl phases Yb{sub 14}MnSb{sub 11} and Yb{sub 14}ZnSb{sub 11} were performed using the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy station of Beamline 7 at the Advanced Light Source.
