Representations to support terrain reasoning

Description: Los Alamos National Laboratory has been cooperating with the Training and Doctrine Command of the US Army to develop a Corps level combat simulation for quick turn around studies. The simulation of ground combat requires representation of combat units, unit activities, command and control, and terrain. This simulation model emphasizes command and control with particular attention to the potential for automating operational planning. As terrain analysis is an essential part of Army operational p… more

THE RELATIVISTIC HEAVY ION COLLIDER (RHIC) REFRIGERATOR SYSTEM AT BROOKHAVEN NATIONAL LABORATORY: PHASE III OF THE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE AND OPERATIONS UPGRADES FOR 2003

Description: An ongoing program at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) consists of improving the efficiency of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) cryogenic system and reducing its power consumption. Phase I and I1 of the program addressed plant operational improvements and modifications that resulted in substantial operational cost reduction and improved system reliability and stability, and a compressor input power reduction of 2 MW has been demonstrated. Phase 111, now under way, consists of plan… more

Interaction of objects in manufacturing process simulation

Description: To provide generic methodology for discrete-event simulation of manufacturing processes, object-oriented programming techniques have been employed to aid in code clarity, efficient development, and maintenance. This paper discusses the interaction between objects. The objects are independent of one another relative to internal coding, but maintain a standard communication protocol. Specific examples using the Rocky Flats Plant Simulation developed by group A-7 are presented. 3 refs., 1 fig.

THE RELATIVISTIC HEAVY ION COLLIDER (RHIC) CRYOGENIC SYSTEM AT BNL: REVIEW OF THE MODIFICATIONS AND UPGRADES SINCE 2002 AND PLANNED IMPROVEMENTS.

Description: Brookhaven National Laboratory continues its multi-year program to improve the operational efficiency, reliability, and stability of the cryogenic system which also resulted in improved beam availability of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). This paper summarizes the work and changes made after each phase over the past four years to the present, as well as proposed future improvements. Power usage dropped from an initial 9.4 MW to the present 5.1 MW and is expected to drop below 5 MW a… more
