Depletion of Minor Constituents From Coast Metals No. 52 (89 Ni-5 Si-4 B-2 Fe) and No. 53 Metals No. 52 (89 Ni-8 Cr-4 B-4 Si-3 Fe) Brazing Alloys During Various Exposures

Description: Corrosion tests were made on nickel-base brazing alloys containing boron snd silicon in fused fluoride fuels, liquid metals, nnd oxidizing atmospheres. Impoverished regions, after the tests, contained, approximately one third the original amount of boron and silicon that was present before the tests. (A.C.)

Dynamic Corrosion Screening Tests on Inconel and Nickel in NaCl-MgCl$sub 2$- UCl$sub 3$Bath

Description: Nickel is more susceptible to mass transfer ina 100hr nonisothermal dynamic corrosion system than is Inconel when exposed to a NaCl-MgCl/sub 2/-UCl/ sub 3/ (50.01800 F. No nickel mass transfer was observed in a 500hr test at 1350 F, but Inconel showed some attack under s transfer was observed in both tests, being more severe at the higher temperature. On the bases of these preliminary tests, it appears that nickel is a more satisfactory container than Inconel for the chloride bath at temperatur… more

The Corrosion Resistance of 86% Fe-5% Si-5% Cu-4% B Brazing Alloy to High-Temperature Lithium

Description: The 86% Fe--5% Si--5% Cu--4% B brazing alloys show better corrosion resistance to high-temperatare lithium than any of the nickel-base brazing materials tested to date. A perferential leaching of the surface of the alloy to a depth of 2 to 3 mils was observed on the alloy specimens tested in lithium at 1500 ts F. A greater weight loss, associated with subsurface voids, was found on specimens tested under dynamic conditions than was observed on the alloy when statically tested at the same temper… more

Lithium Symposium--Analytical Procedures and High-Temperature Corrosion. Reading List

Description: ABS>A list of 222 references pertaining to corrosion by molten Li and related subjects was compiled in connection with a Lithium Symposium held at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory on August 7-8, 1957. This list is by no means exhaustive but it is thought to contain most of the information presently available on these subfects. In many cases the individual references will contain additional references. (auth)

Type 316 Stainless Steel, Inconel, and Haynes Alloy No. 25 Natural-Circulation Boiling-Potassium Corrosion Test Loops

Description: Report issued by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory discussing natural-circulation corrosion test loops. As stated in the abstract, "an investigation was undertaken to determine the compatibility of conventional nickel, iron, and cobalt-base high-temperature alloys with boiling potassium. The tests were designed to obtain quantitative information on the dissolution of the container alloys by condensing potassium and the subsequent deposition of solute in the subcooled liquid region of the test d… more
