Automation of a guarded hot plate thermal conductivity instrument

Description: The Thermo-Physics Corporation's GP-1800 guarded hot plate thermal conductivity instrument has been automated using a Digital Equipment Corporation PDP 11/35 minicomputer with an Industrial Control Subsystem Remote. Automation included constructing a hardware link between the instrument and the minicomputer system and designing, writing, and documenting software to perform equipment control, data acquisition, data reduction, and report generation. The software was designed and written so that n… more

Automation of a thermal expansion instrument

Description: Automation of a thermal expansion instrument using a minicomputer system and with analog-to-digital converter inputs and flip-flop relay outputs is described. The necessary hardware link and the software were developed to allow equipment control, data acquisition, data reduction, and report generation by the minicomputer. The design of the automation allows non-programmers to run the experiment, reduce the data, and generate the report.
