High-Frequency Limit of Longitudinal Impedance

Description: A method of iterations which takes into account finite widths of resonances is developed and used to calculate the longitudinal impedance for a cylindrical cavity with side pipes. In the high-frequency limit the dependence of the real part of the impedance on the frequency is omega^(-1/2) in agreement with the estimate for the average impedance obtained by G. Do^me.

Perturbation Method for Calculation of Narrow-Band Impedance and Trapped Modes

Description: An iterative method for calculation of the narrow-band impedance is described for a system with a small variation in boundary conditions, so that the variation can be considered as a perturbation. The results are compared with the degeneracy of the spectrum of an unperturbed system. The method also can be applied to transverse impedance calculations.

The Loss Parameters for Very Short Bunches

Description: Semi-empirical formulas for the transverse and longitudinal loss factors generated by cavity and step discontinuities are given in the limit of short bunch length. The parametric transition between the cavity and step approximations is considered. The differences between the impedances offered by periodic structures and isolated single cavities are also discussed.

On Asymmetric Collisions with Large Disruption Parameters

Description: Collisions between a weak electron bunch and a strong positron bunch are studied within a flat beam model. Electrons are tracked through the transverse space charge field of the positron bunch, and it is shown that positrons in a storage ring may remain stable after asymmetric collisions with a weak electron bunch in spite of large values of the electron disruption parameter. The plasma oscillations that effect collisions with large disruption parameters may be suppressed by properly matching t… more

Proposal for a High-Brightness Pulsed Electron Source

Description: We propose a novel scheme for a high-brightness pulsedelectron source, which has the potential for many useful applications inelectron microscopy, inverse photo-emission, low energy electronscattering experiments, and electron holography. A description of theproposed scheme is presented.

Impedance and Single Bunch Instability Calculations for the ILCDamping Ring

Description: An important action item for the damping rings of theInternational Linear Collider (ILC) is to compute the broad-bandimpedance and, from it, the threshold to the microwave instability. Wereport on the status of our study and provide a preliminary estimate ofthe instability threshold based on impedance models developed sofar.
