A Comparison of Akha, Hani, Khàtú, and Pìj̀ɔ̀

It compares the cognate forms and phoneme inventories of 4 Lolo-Burmese languages: Akha (Thailand), Hani, Khàtú, and Pìj̀ɔ̀ (the last three from Kunming, China). Object-Verb in Akha: The ABB Structure

Description: This conference paper handout discusses the structure, syntax, and semantics of noun/object-verb constructions in which the verb has the same phonetic shape as the second syllable (aka cognate object constructions) in Akha. Description: This is an incomplete handout about reduplication in Akha. The author illustrates cases in which reduplicaiton shows a simultaneous action, in combination with serial verb constructions, repeated nouns with two unprefixed adjectives, and reduplication with classifiers and tone change. 29 sentences of Akha, word-to-word-glossing, and free translation to English are provided by the author to illustrate reduplication.
