Integrated power conditioning for laser diode arrays

Description: This compact modulator has demonstated its ability to efficiently and accurately drive a laser diode array. The addition of the crowbar protection circuit is an invaluable addition to the integrated system and is capable of protecting the laser diode array against severe damage. We showed that the correlation between measured data and simulation indicates that our modulator model is valid and can be used as a tool in the design of future systems. The spectrometer measurements that we conducted … more

Large area 200 psec gated microchannel plate detector

Description: Results are presented with a 15 mm wide gated microchannel plate uv and x-ray detector. The active area is part of a 6 ohm transmission line driven by an electronically generated gate pulse. The microchannel plate is coated with CsI allowing tests with a frequency quadrupled, high repetition rate 1.05 ..mu..m laser. Results showing optical gate widths as short as 100 psec are presented.

Multi-frame x-ray imaging with a large area 40ps camera

Description: The authors have developed a large area short pulse framing camera that is capable of sixteen frames and shutter times of 40ps per frame. This is accomplished with a high fidelity electrical circuit and a L/D = 20 microchannel plate, driven by a short pulse (80ps) high amplitude electrical driver. They show results of this work they have done to support this type of shutter time and the difficulties associated with large area high speed shuttering.

Engineering development for a small-scale recirculator experiment

Description: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is evaluating the physics and technology of recirculating induction accelerators for heavy-ion inertial-fusion drivers. As part of this evaluation, the authors are building a small-scale recirculator to demonstrate the concept and to use as a test bed for the development of recirculator technologies. System designs have been completed and components are presently being designed and developed for the small-scale recirculator. This paper discusses res… more

Results of the Recirculator Project at LLNL

Description: The Heavy Ion Fusion Group at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has for several years been developing the world's first circular induction accelerator designed for space charge dominated ion beams. Experiments on one quarter of the ring have been completed. The accelerator extended ten half-lattice periods (HLP) with induction cores for acceleration placed on every other HLP. A network of Capacitive Beam Probes (C-probes) was also enabled for beam position monitoring throughout the bend se… more

Recent progress in the development of a circular ion induction accelerator for space charge dominated beams at LLNL

Description: The Heavy Ion Fusion Group at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has for several years been developing the worlds first circular ion induction accelerator. This machine has recently been extended to 90 degrees, or 10 half-lattice periods (HLP) with full beam transport. In addition, induction cores have been installed on five of the HLPs, each with an independent arbitrary waveform pulser. An arbitrary waveform pulser for the bending electrostatic dipoles has also been enabled. Together, t… more
