A study of the socio-economic status of the freshman students of North Texas State Teachers College and its effect upon college attainment

Description: This study was undertaken as an investigation to find out the socio-economic status of the Freshman class of North Texas State Teachers college, Denton, Texas. The investigation has the following purposes: to find out the number of independent, partially dependent, and dependent students; to discover social and economic factors concerning their home background the year preceding their entrance to the college; to study the economic status of these groups for the school year 1936-37; to study the social status of the same groups, on the campus, for the same period of time; to study the scholastic status of the same students during the same period, and to compare the grades of each group to discover the effect, if any, of social and economic status upon scholastic attainment.

Interpersonal Responsiveness as a Function of Self-Concept

Description: This study considers the relationship between scores on the "Experimental Draw-A-Group Projective Technique for Measuring Interpersonal Responsivenesss" (DAG), and self-concept as indicated by scores on the Tennessee Self Concept Scale (TSCS). The study assumes a significantly positive relationship between interpersonal responsiveness and self-concept. The study further seeks to establish sound empirical data to justify the use of the DAG scale in the research of self-concept.

Social Interest and the Communications Organ Score in Human Figure Drawings

Description: The relationship between social interest and personal adjustment described by Adler seems to imply that the CO score is positively correlated with personal adjustment. If the CO score in a human figure drawing indicates the degree of social interest manifested by an individual, it is reasoned that the CO score will measure that individual's adjustment level.

Description: Following Hawley's point of view regarding the definition and inclusiveness of human ecology, ecological data must include both a population and its characteristics and some measurements of the environment of this population. Following Hawley, an ecological investigation must select from available data and examine at least some of the relationships that may exist among these measurable population and environmental characteristics, in an effort to find and isolate the causes of mental disorders, particularly of those now called "functional."

Description: The purpose of the present study is fourfold: (1) to investigate the predicted relationships between self-acceptance and acceptance of others, (2) to investigate self-acceptance, acceptance of others, and their interrelationship with acceptance by others, (3) to investigate the patterns of interrelationship between self-acceptance, acceptance of others, actual acceptability to others, and predicted acceptability to others, and (4) to investigate an hypothesized curvilinear relationship between self-acceptance and acceptance of others.
