Benchmarking and tuning the MILC code on clusters and supercomputers

Description: Recently, we have benchmarked and tuned the MILC code on a number of architectures including Intel Itanium and Pentium IV (PIV), dual-CPU Athlon, and the latest Compaq Alpha nodes. Results will be presented for many of these, and we shall discuss some simple code changes that can result in a very dramatic speedup of the KS conjugate gradient on processors with more advanced memory systems such as PIV, IBM SP and Alpha.

Dilepton Production from Collisions of Polarized Spin 1/2 Hadrons. 2. Parton-model predictions

Description: Parton-model predictions for lepton-pair production from polarized spin-1/2 particles are considered within the context of a formalism explained in a companion paper. The polarization effects in the quantum-chromodynamic 2 {yields} 2 subprocesses which contribute to lepton-pair production are found to be quite simple. Following the work of Ralston and Soper, polarized distribution functions are defined for gluons as well as quarks. Finally, a detailed discussion of polarization and the hard-scattering formalism is presented for the two cases of intrinsic parton transverse momentum allowed or forbidden.

Update on onium masses with three flavors of dynamical quarks

Description: We update results presented at Lattice 2005 on charmonium masses. New ensembles of gauge configurations with 2+1 flavors of improved staggered quarks have been analyzed. Statistics have been increased for other ensembles. New results are also available for P-wave mesons and for bottomonium on selected ensembles.

The decay constants f(B+) and f(D+) from three-flavor lattice QCD

Description: We present new results for f{sub B+} and f{sub D+} from the MILC 2+1 flavor a = 0.09fm 'fine' lattice. We use clover heavy quarks in the Fermilab interpretation and improved staggered light quarks. Lattice results from partially quenched QCD fix the parameters of staggered chiral perturbation theory which is used in the extrapolation to the physical decay constants.
