Evidence for a new pseudoscalar resonance at 1. 26 GeV. [8. 45 GeV/c, isobar model, phase shift]

Description: Further results are presented from an isobar-model phase shift analysis of the eta ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/ system produced in ..pi../sup -/p ..-->.. eta ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/n at 8.45 GeV/c. We fine, in addition to the narrow (GAMMA approx. 25 MeV) D meson with IJ/sup P/ = 01/sup +/ at 1.275 GeV, a broad (GAMMA approx. 100 MeV) 00- object centered near 1.26 GeV and decaying mainly into delta ..pi... There is an indication of a second broad pseudoscalar near 1.40 GeV decaying into epsilo… more

Study of neutral mesons decaying into. pi. /sup +/. pi. /sup -/3. gamma. and. pi. /sup +/. pi. /sup -/4. gamma. [Proposed experiment]

Description: It is proposed to use the Charged and Neutral Spectrometer in Beam 8 to study the reactions ..pi../sup -/p ..-->.. ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/3..gamma..n and ..pi../sup -/p ..-->.. ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/4..gamma..n at 8.5 GeV/c. Improvements to the spectrometer will allow a data collection rate 4 to 5 times better than achieved for these reactions in E-397. Of particular interest are the radiative decays eta' ..-->.. ..omega gamma.., ..omega.. ..-->.. eta..gamma.., rho ..-->.. eta..gamma..; … more

Charge--exchange production of axial vector mesons at 8. 45 GeV/c

Description: Differential cross sections are presented for the reactions ..pi../sup -/p ..-->.. B/sup 0/ (1235)n, B/sup 0/ ..-->.. ..omega../sup 0/..pi../sup 0/ (..omega../sup 0/ ..-->.. ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/..pi../sup 0/), and ..pi../sup -/p ..-->.. D/sup 0/ (1285)n, D/sup 0/ ..-->.. eta/sup 0/ ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/ (eta/sup 0/ ..-->.. ..gamma gamma..) at 8.45 GeV/c. The data were obtained at the Argonne ZGS with the Charged and Neutral Spectrometer which detected both charged pions and all ..gam… more

Results from a partial wave analysis of the eta. pi. /sup +/. pi. /sup -/ system produced in. pi. /sup -/ p. -->. eta. pi. /sup +/. pi. /sup -/ n at 8. 45 GeV/c. [Preliminary results isobar-model phase shift analysis]

Description: The first results from an isobar-model phase shift analysis of the eta..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/ system are presented. Particular emphasis is given to an unambiguous determination of the spin-parity of the D(1285) meson.

Comparison of the differential cross-sections for. pi. /sup -/p. -->. eta 'n and. pi. /sup -/p. -->. eta n at 8. 45 GeV/c

Description: The ratio R of the differential cross sections for ..pi../sup -/p eta'n and ..pi../sup -/p eta n was measured with high statistics and small systematic errors at 8.45 GeV/c. R is generally interpreted as the relative content of nonstrange, ground-state quarks in eta' and eta. It is found that R decreases with increasing t; however, extrapolation to t = 0 gives R(0) = 0.672 +- 0.032 (statistical) +- 0.047 (systematic) for the dominant spin flip cross sections, and R(0) = 0.500 +- 0.085 +- 0.035 … more

A Study of Neutron Proton Charge Exchange Scattering in the Momentum Range 50 - 200 GeV

Description: It is proposed to measure the neutron-proton charge-exchange cross-section in an on-line counter experiment for four-momentum transfers between .002 and 1.0 (GeV/c){sup 2}. The experiment will be performed in an intense neutron beam with a continuous momentum spectrum; data will be taken simultaneously for all momenta between 50 and 200 GeV/c. At a beam intensity of 10{sup 7} neutrons/pulse, the true data-collection rate will be about .5 per pulse. Approximately 90,000 events will be obtained. … more
