Recent developments and applications of multi-configuration Hartree-Fock methods. NRCC proceedings No. 10

Description: Twenty-seven papers are included in four sessions titled: generalized Fock operator methods, annihilation of single excitations methods, second-order MCSCF methods, and applications of MCHF methods. Separate abstracts were prepared for eight papers; one of the remaining had been previously abstracted. (DLC)

ENERGY DERIVATIVES FOR CONFIGURATION INTERACTION WAVEFUNCTIONS

Description: Equations providing the first and second derivatives of a configuration interaction (CI) energy with respect to an external parameter are provided. We assume no restriction on the form of the CI expansion built from molecular orbitals obtained in a multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock (MCHF) calculation. Also the coupled perturbed multi-configuration Hartree-Fock formalism is presented for a general MCHF wavefunction and provides the first order and second order changes of the molecular orbital expa… more

Compound Nucleus Contributions to the Optical Potential

Description: An ab-initio calculation of the optical potential for neutron-nucleus scattering has been performed by explicitly coupling the elastic channel to all the particle-hole (p-h) excitation states in the target. These p-h states may be regarded as doorway states through which the flux flows to more complicated configurations, and (in the end) to long-lived compound nucleus resonances. The random-phase approximation (RPA) provides the linear combinations of p-h states that include the residual intera… more

Challenging Nuclear Structure Models Through a Microscopic Description of Proton Inelastic Scattering off 208Pb

Description: A fully microscopic calculation of inelastic proton scattering off {sup 208}Pb is presented, and compared to experimental scattering data for incident proton energies between 65 and 201 MeV. By constructing the nucleon-nucleus interaction through the folding of nuclear structure information with a reliable nucleon-nucleon effective interaction that has no adjusted parameter, a consistent framework is built, for probing the influence of different descriptions of nuclear structure on nucleon inel… more

Towards a Microscopic Reaction Description Based on Energy Density Functionals

Description: A microscopic calculation of reaction cross sections for nucleon-nucleus scattering has been performed by explicitly coupling the elastic channel to all particle-hole excitations in the target and one-nucleon pickup channels. The particle-hole states may be regarded as doorway states through which the flux flows to more complicated configurations, and subsequently to long-lived compound nucleus resonances. Target excitations for {sup 40,48}Ca, {sup 58}Ni, {sup 90}Zr and {sup 144}Sm were describ… more
