In regards to having staff faculty from the Marcus Foundation Board invited to the January conference as Melba Whatley is concerned about educating the board and feels like the conference would be a good opportunity. Davis understands, however, that not all the board members are able to attend due to the limited spacing the Getty Center has but would appreciation anything they can put together.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Jack Davis, Dean of the School of Visual Arts, to David Kesterson, Vice Provost for the University of North Texas. To request more space for North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts by wanting access to Rooms 305 & 303 B in Marquis Hall, UNT. Davis understands that the need for space is great, but NTIEVA has proven themselves to be a viable operation with consistent external funding for its program, along with a major outreach for UNT. Davis writes that in the last five years the Institute has generated more than 1,400,000 in grant funds and has only grown more steadily with each passing year. Thus with the expansion of the program, Davis requests more space to continue their operations as their previous space has become overly crowded.

[Letter from Jack Davis to Janice Wiggins, April 7, 1995]

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Jack Davis, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Janice Wiggins, Dallas ISD. Discussing the use of grant money. Wiggins requested that the grant money, intended to be used for support of Dallas I.S.D's participation in the Secondary Institute be used to stipends for participants of the Elementary Institute instead. Davis writes back that this is not possible for several reason which he encloses in the letter, the first being that he does not want to jeopardize the relationship with his funders by using the grants for something that was not made clear in the condition when the money was given. Davis explains that if the money is not used for its original intended purpose for which they were in agreement, then they are obligated to return the money back. Copied on the letter is Bill Cormack.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Jack Davis, Vice Provost of North Texas State University, to Linus Wright, Superintendent for Dallas ISD. Davis is happy to share with Wright a copy of a letter to the Getty Center for Education in the Arts for the North Texas Regional Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, "North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts" (NTIEVA), which has been funded. Davis writes that they will begin work immediately to get the steering committee organized and to get the first conference meeting going. Davis ends the letter saying that with Wright, he is confidence that can put together a successful proposal for an implementation grant.

The email is to the "Houston Group" from Jack and Jeff, reminding the group about the press announcement of Transforming Education Through the Arts in Los Angeles, set by Harold Williams and Vartan Gregorian for October 11, 1995. Davis asks of the group who can go to LA and to let Vicki Rosenberg know by September 25th and to let her know how many directors and funders are able to make the trip as well.
