Top quark pair production cross section measurements in p anti-p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.96 TeV

Description: The CDF and D0 experiments have measured the t{bar t} production cross section in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV from different final states using a wide variety of techniques. CDF has combined 6 measurements using data samples with integrated luminosities up to 760 pb{sup -1}: {sigma}{sub t{bar t}} = 7.3 {+-} 0.5(stat) {+-} 0.6(syst) {+-} 0.4(lum) pb in good agreement with the theoretical calculations: 6.7 {+-} 0.8 pb for a top mass of 175 GeV/c{sup 2}. The experimental precision… more

Top quark production cross-section at the Tevatron Run 2

Description: The top quark pair production cross-section {sigma}{sub t{bar t}} has been measured in p{bar p} collisions at center of mass energies of 1.96 TeV using Tevatron Run 2 data. In the beginning of Run 2 both CDF and D0 {sigma}{sub t{bar t}} measurements in the dilepton channel t{bar t} {yields} WbW{bar b} {yields} {bar {ell}}{nu}{sub {ell}}b{ell}{prime} {bar {nu}}{sub {ell}{prime}}{bar b} and in the lepton plus jets channel t{bar t} {yields} WbW{bar b} {yields} q{bar q}{prime} b{ell}{bar {nu}}{sub … more

Top pair production cross section at s**(1/2) = 1.96 TeV and a search for v + a current in top quark decay

Description: Possible effects from physics beyond the Standard Model have been investigated in top quark decays from a data sample enriched in t{bar t} events produced in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV with an integrated luminosity of approximately 700 pb{sup -1} and collected with the CDF II detector. The combined t{bar t} production cross section measurement 7.3 {+-} 0.9 pb agrees with the QCD NLO predictions: 6.7 {+-} 0.8 pb assuming m{sub top} = 175 GeV/c{sup 2}. The fraction of the V + A … more

The Run IIb upgrade of the CDF silicon detectors

Description: A substantial portion of the Run IIa silicon detectors of the CDF experiment will not perform adequately for the duration of Run IIb (15 fb{sup -1}) because of radiation damage. The Silicon Vertex Detector (SVX-II) and Layer 00 will be fully replaced at the end of Run IIa. The Run IIb silicon tracker has a baseline design that safely achieves the required radiation tolerance by using single sided sensors that are actively cooled. The new Run IIb castellated layout contains more silicon surface … more

Data Production Models for the CDF Experiment

Description: The data production for the CDF experiment is conducted on a large Linux PC farm designed to meet the needs of data collection at a maximum rate of 40 MByte/sec. We present two data production models that exploits advances in computing and communication technology. The first production farm is a centralized system that has achieved a stable data processing rate of approximately 2 TByte per day. The recently upgraded farm is migrated to the SAM (Sequential Access to data via Metadata) data handl… more

Exotic Physics: Search for New Physics Leading to High Mass Tau Pairs With ppbar Collisions at 1.96 TeV Using Cdf Ii

Description: Abstract: We present the results of a search for anomalous resonant production of tau lepton pairs with large invariant mass, the first such search using the CDF II Detector in Run II of the Tevatron p{bar p} collider. Such anomalous production could arise from various new physics processes. In a data sample corresponding to 195 pb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity we predict 2.8 {+-} 0.5 events from Standard Model background processes and observe 4. We use this result to set limits on the produ… more
