A Field Follow-Up Study of Beginning Elementary Teachers

Description: The present study was made to determine the relationship between the level of teaching effectiveness of beginning elementary teachers and three individual characteristics of prospective teachers. A secondary purpose was an attempt to improve the service rendered by the School of Education at North Texas State College, Denton, Texas, in the selection and guidance of students who indicate a desire to enter the program for preparing elementary teachers.

Relationships between Patient Motivation for Physical Rehabilitiation and Subscales on the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule

Description: This study was concerned with the relationship between patient motivation for treatment in three of the various therapy sections of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service of the Veterans Administration General Medical and Surgical Hospital, Long Beach, California, and needs as measured by the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule. Of the six therapies under the direction of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service consideration was given to the following: Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), and Corrective Therapy (CT)

Relationship between Aptitudes and Major Fields of Study

Description: As new measures of aptitude are devised, their implications to education are a fertile source for research. All facets of aptitudes as they relate to education are explored. This study is concerned with such exploration in that it investigates the relationships between aptitudes, as measured by the General Aptitude Test Battery and selected major fields of study at North Texas State College, Denton, Texas. The major fields of study selected for this research are Accounting, Business Education, Elementary Education, Industrial Arts and Marketing.

Requirements for Successful Ministerial Service in the South Carolina Annual Conference of the Methodist Church

Description: The major problem of this study is to identify through the use of the Critical Incident Technique the main requirements for successful ministerial service in the South Carolina Annual Conference of the Methodist Church, insofar as these requirements can be determined through lay observations and judgments. The following sub-problems are closely related to the major problem: 1. What special demands are made upon the minister by special subgroups within the church--e.g., youth, women's groups--in regard to pastoral behavior? 2. How important are the roles assigned to the minister by the church itself--e.g., preacher, teacher, counselor, visitor, administrator, priest? 3. Do churches of varying sizes differ in their expectations of the Ministerial office--e.g., do large churches place greater emphasis upon preaching? 4. Does educational training and/or the salary of the minister correlate with the number of successful incidents reported by respondents?

A Comparison of Learner-Centeredness in Teacher Attitudes and Verbal Behavior

Description: The problem of this study was to determine whether teachers' attitudes as revealed by responses to an attitude instrument reflect teachers' classroom behaviors as implied by a behavior record of verbal comments to pupils. This research, in effect, was a check on the predictive validity of the attitude instrument used in the study, the Minnesota Teacher Attitude Inventory.

A Comparative Analysis of Selected Characteristics of Intellectually Superior Male Students who Persist and Those who do not Persist in an Advanced Placement Program

Description: This study made a comparative analysis of certain selected characteristics of a group of academically able male youth who persisted and those who did not persist in a five-year academic sequence in mathematics and science. Two major questions were dealt with in this study: 1. Can the persisting youth as a group be distinguished from those youth who did not persist in this academic sequence on the basis of their functioning in certain nonintellective areas? 2. Are the performances of the persisting youth on certain dimensions elevated in the same directions as are the performances of mature creatives who have been intensively studied on the same dimensions?

Description: This study was undertaken to make a comparative analysis of selected nonintellective characteristics of intellectually superior female students who persisted and those who did not persist in an Advanced Placement Program offering sequentially planned course offerings in mathematics and science. A second dimension of the study was an investigation of selected nonintellective traits to determine if the students' scores are elevated in the same direction as those of superior female adults who have been studied on essentially the same dimensions.

Is creativity more evident in children demonstrating certain socially deviant characteristics? 3. How much social acceptance is there of children demonstrating varying levels of social deviance and varying levels of creative ability? 4. Use of the Reve Eveille Dirige (Guided Daydream) for Selection of Vocation and College Major

Description: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the guided daydream technique as a method for selection of a vocation and major area of study by college students seeking vocational counseling. Choices made by each student were rated by three judges relative to their degree of correspondence with the results of a specific battery of vocational tests which that student had taken. The ratings of these students' choices were compared with similar ratings made by the same judges on a control group of students who had also made choices of vocation and college major but had not participated in the guided daydream session.

Effect of Emotional Stimulation on Recognition and Inference

The Relationship between the Interaction of Two Anxiety Variables and Creative Production

Description: It is evident that educators and industrial psychologists alike recognize the effect that situational climate may have upon creative production. The present study will, hopefully, contribute some useful information leading to a better definition of the relationship between anxiety and creative production, which will lead in time to suggestions regarding the essential conditions of an optimum creative climate. The exploration of some of the aspects involved in situational climates is the point of departure for the present study.
