The Effect of Relationship Films on the Attitudes of Homemaking Girls

Description: Films have been used with varying degrees of success to influence the attitudes of pupils of different ages and interests. Little has been done, however, to measure the attitudes of girls in high school homemaking classes. It is the purpose of this study to use films as an integral part of a group relationships unit and to determine what attitude changes, if any, are directly attributable to film content.

Description: The purpose of this study of the out-of-school character-building organizations for high-school youth is fourfold: (1) to discover the problems peculiar to adolescents growing up in the disturbed social environment of this country at the present time; (2) to determine the part reputable youth-serving organizations have in quipping young persons for meeting these problem; (3) to investigate a specific situation in an effort to determine the extent to which high-school students take advantage of the services offered by these organizations; and (4) to suggest ways of reaching more of the young people by gaining from them a knowledge of the kind of program they desire.

An Investigation of the Relationship between Girls' Reasons for Electing Homemaking and Their Vocational Preferences and Aptitudes

Description: A review of preceding studies reveals a number of factors which influence junior- and senior-high-school girls to elect homemaking. The present study proposes to discover additional factors. It, furthermore, proposes to determine whether any relationships exist between the expressed interests of students who elect homemaking and their vocational preferences and general aptitudes.

Description: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the Q-scores and the L-scores made on the American Council on Education Psychological Examination and the scores made on Aptitudes "N" and "V" of the General Aptitude Test Battery by the same students, and to compare the academic grades of these same students with the aforementioned test scores in order to determine what relationship exists, if any, between academic grades made in certain selected courses and scores made on each of the aforementioned tests.

A Comparative Study of the Reading Interests of Junior and Senior Students in Ten Texas High Schools

Description: The problem undertaken in this study was that of making an effort to determine, in so far as was possible, the reading interests of the students enrolled in the high school at Nocona, Texas, during the 1954-1955 school session. A secondary phase of the problem was to compare these reading interests with those of students enrolled in nine other typical high schools of comparable size in other sections of Texas, as determined by means of a questionnaire survey.

An Analytical Study of Basketball Goal Shooting in Fifteen Girls' Commercial Basketball Games of the Major City and Industrial Leagues of Fort Worth, Texas, during the Season of 1951-1952

Description: The investigator became interested in the status of basketball goal shooting in modern girls' basketball as compared to that of boys' goal shooting. Types of shots, their frequency and accuracy, and the zones on the court from which they were taken, were all considered as components of the status of basketball goal shooting. It was on the basis of this interest that the present study was undertaken.
