Evidence of half-metallic interface magnetism via local moment formation in Co based Heusler alloys

Description: In this work we use a combination of x-ray magnetic circular and linear dichroism (XMCD and XMLD) techniques to examine the formation of local moments in Heusler alloys of the composition Co{sub 2}MnX (where X=Si or Al). The existence of local moments in a half-metallic system is reliant upon the band gap in the minority-spin states. By utilizing the element-specific nature of x-ray techniques we are able to explore the origin of the minority-spin band gap in the partial density of states (PDOS… more

Temperature dependence of the interface moments in Co2MnSi thin films

Description: X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) is utilized to explore the temperature dependence of the interface moments in Co{sub 2}MnSi (CMS) thin films capped with aluminium. By increasing the thickness of the capping layer we demonstrate enhanced interface sensitivity of the measurements and the existence of a thin Mn oxide layer at the CMS/Al interface even when a thick capping layer is used. We show that for well ordered L2{sub 1} CMS films there is no significant variation in either the Co or… more

Hierarchy of multiple many-body interaction scales in high-temperature superconductors

Description: To date, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy has been successful in identifying energy scales of the many-body interactions in correlated materials, focused on binding energies of up to a few hundred meV below the Fermi energy. Here, at higher energy scale, we present improved experimental data from four families of high-T{sub c} superconductors over a wide doping range that reveal a hierarchy of many-body interaction scales focused on: the low energy anomaly ('kink') of 0.03-0.09eV, a hi… more
