The energy dependence of the total charm cross section

Description: We discuss the energy dependence of the total charm cross section and some of its theoretical uncertainties including the quark mass, scale choice and the parton densities. We compare the next-to-leading order calculation of the total cross section with results obtained using PYTHIA.

Comparisons of the MINOS Near and Far Detector Readout Systems at a Test Beam

Description: MINOS is a long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment that uses two detectors separated by 734 km. The readout systems used for the two detectors are different and have to be independently calibrated. Description: This dissertation documents the development of a broadband electron spectrometer (ESM) for GeV class Laser Wakefield Accelerators (LWFA), the production of high quality GeV electron beams (e-beams) for the first time in a LWFA by using a capillary discharge guide (CDG), and a statistical analysis of CDG-LWFAs. Energy dependence of jet transport parameter and parton saturationin quark-gluon plasma

Description: We study the evolution and saturation of the gluondistribution function in the quark-gluon plasma as probed by apropagating parton and its effect on the computation of jet quenching ortransport parameter $\hat q $. Heavy Quark Production at the Tevatron

Description: Results are presented from four CDF analyses involving heavy quark production in proton-antiproton collisions at center of mass energy 1.96 TeV. The shapes of b-jets are found to be broader than inclusive predictions and broader than both PYTHIA and HERWIG defaults. Energy dependence of pi, p and pbar transverse momentum spectra for Au+Au collisions at sqrt sNN = 62.4 and 200 GeV

Description: We study the energy dependence of the transverse momentum (pT) spectra for charged pions, protons and anti-protons for Au+Au collisions at sqrt sNN = 62.4 and 200 GeV. Data are presented at mid-rapidity (lbar y rbar< 0.5) for 0.2< pT< 12 GeV/c. In the intermediate pT region (2< pT< 6 GeV/c), the nuclear modification factor is higher at 62.4 GeV than at 200 GeV, while at higher pT (pT> 7 GeV/c) the modification is similar for both energies. Remark On: The Neutron Spherical Optical-Model Absorption.

Description: The energy-dependent behavior of the absorption term of the spherical neutron optical potential for doubly magic {sup 208}Pb and the neighboring {sup 209}Bi is examined. Extracting longitudinal shower development information from crystal calorimetry plus tracking

Description: We present an approach to derive longitudinal shower development information from the longitudinally unsegmented BABAR electromagnetic calorimeter by using tracking information. A systematic study of J/psi suppression in cold nuclear matter

Description: Understanding the effects of cold nuclear matter on J/psi production is a key requirement in order to interpret the J/psi suppression reported in heavy-ion collisions. Based on a Glauber model, the J/psi-nucleon inelastic cross section is determined from a statistical analysis of J/psi world data on nuclear targets. Proton reaction cross sections measured in the BNL/AGS E943 experiment

Description: We have measured proton reaction cross sections over a wide mass and energy range at the Brookhaven AGS accelerator. The samples were elemental Be, C, Al, Cu, W, and Pb; the measurements were carried out at ten incident proton kinetic energies in the range 0.54 to 7.8 GeV. Particle Correlations with the PHENIX Experiment

Description: Results of identical pion correlations from the first year of data collection with the PHENIX detector at RHIC ({radical}S{sub NN} = 130 GeV) are presented. PHENIX has good particle identification using an electromagnetic calorimeter for timing, leading to identified pions from .2 to 1 GeV/c. System size, energy and centrality dependence of strange hadron elliptic flow at STAR

Description: The elliptic flow (v{sub 2}) pattern in terms of hadron mass and transverse momentum p{sub T} is qualitatively described for p{sub T} < 2 GeV/c by ideal hydrodynamics in Au + Au collisions at RHIC. In addition, for p{sub T} = 2-6 GeV/c the measured v{sub 2} follow a universal scaling by the number of quarks explained by quark coalescence/recombination models. Determination of the strong coupling constant from the inclusive jet cross section in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV

Xi0 and anti-Xi0 Polarization Measurements at 800-GeV/c

Description: The polarization of {Xi}{sup 0} and {bar {Xi}}{sup 0} hyperons produced by 800 GeV/c protons on a BeO target at a fixed targeting angle of 4.8 mrad is measured by the KTeV experiment at Fermilab. The result of 9.7% for {Xi}{sup 0} polarization shows no significant energy dependence when compared to a result obtained at 400 GeV/c production energy and at twice the targeting angle.
