Preliminary study of the favorability for uranium in the Madera Limestone, and Cutler and Chinle Formations of the Sierra Nacimiento-Jemez Mountains area, New Mexico

Description: Small, surficial, secondary uranium deposits are present in several formations in the Sierra Nacimiento-Jemez Mountains region, but none of significant size are known. Field surveys indicate that the deposits are laterally discontinuous and are, in most cases, associated with carbonaceous debris. Mineral contents of as much as 0.18 percent U/sub 3/O/sub 8/ are recorded. Evaluation of the solar building, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Final report, April 1974-September 1978

Description: During portions of the 1974-1975 and 1975-1976 winter heating seasons, a field evaluation was made of a solar-assisted heat pump heating system in a small commercial office building in Albuquerque, N.M. The system was comprised of one main water-to-water heat pump and five small water-to-air heat pumps. Some atmospheric tracer experiments in complex terrain at LASL: experimental design and data. [Fluorescent particle tracer study]

Description: Two series of atmospheric tracer experiments were conducted in complex terrain situations in and around the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. Fluorescent particle tracers were used to investigate nighttime drainage flow in Los Alamos Canyon and daytime flow across the local canyon-mesa complex. This report describes the details of these experiments and presents a summary of the data collected. A subsequent report will discuss the analysis of these data.

Anomalous fracture-extension pressure in granitic rocks

Description: Fracture-extension pressures appreciably higher than the least principal earth-stress were observed in hydraulic fractures formed in a pair of 3 km (9600 ft) deep boreholes drilled near the Valles Caldera in northern New Mexico. Pressurization of open wellbores in rock containing preexisting fractures may open these fractures, instead of creating new fractures at right angles to the least principal stress.
