Improved approximate formulas for flux from cylindrical and rectangular sources

Description: This report provides two new approximate formulas for the flux at detector points outside the radial and axial extensions of a homogeneous cylindrical source and improved approximate formulas for the flux at points opposite rectangular surface sources. These formulas extend the range of geometries for which analytic approximations may be used by shield design engineers to make rapid scoping studies and check more extensive calculations for reasonableness. These formulas can be used to support s… more

Transfer Retention at City College in Engineering (TRACC). Final Report, September 30, 1992--September 29, 1993

Description: Goal of TRACC (Transfer Retention at City College in Engineering) is to increase the number of minority transfer students from community colleges who receive Bachelors degrees in engineering and computer science from CCNY. TRACC offers qualified students access to academic and social support services. TRACC has shown promising results in its first year; TRACC student pass rates in coursework were higher compared to a cohort group of non-TRACC students. They report that tutoring and enrichment c… more

D0 Solenoid Upgrade Project: Rectangular Liquid Helium Tube, Miscellaneous Information

Description: This engineering note contains miscellaneous information about the rectangular liquid helium supply tube for the D-Zero solenoid. The information is fairly superficial, but could be used as a starting point for a future engineer who is going to specify and puchase the tubing. The chimney contains 4 conductors attached to an aluminum liquid helium supply tube. Because good thermal contact is desired, the tube will have flat sides. Aluminum is chosen to match the thermal contraction coefficient o… more
