Enhancing solar photocatalytic detoxification by adsorption of porphyrins onto TiO sub 2

Description: Titanium dioxide (TiO{sub 2}) is a known photocatalyst for solar detoxification of water containing organic contaminants including PCB's and dioxins. Unfortunately, the UV light used by the photocatalyst only comprises about 4% of the strong spectrum. Metalloporphyrins strongly absorb in the visible and near infrared region. Using visible light, we have investigated Ni(II) uroporphyrin (NiUroP), Sn(IV)Cl{sub 2} uroporphyrin (SnUroP) and Sn(IV)Cl{sub 2} tetrakis(p-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (SnTCP… more

Calculation of percentile-distance ratios and scaled absorbed-dose distributions for 0. 05- to 30-keV primary electrons

Description: This document reports the results of computing Berger-type point kernels for 0.05- to 30-keV monoenergetic electrons in a water medium. A detailed-histories Monte Carlo method was used in contrast to the condensed-histories methods used by others. Good agreement with other work was found, over the common energy region. The study was performed at Pacific Northwest Laboratory as an exploratory research project. 8 refs., 10 figs., 2 tabs.

Development of a New Plasma Diagnostic of the Critical Surface and Studies of the Ion Acoustic Decay Instability Using Collective Thomson Scattering

Description: We have developed 5-channel collective Thomson scattering system to measure the ion acoustic wave excited by the ion acoustic wave decay instabilities. The multichannel collective Thomson scattering technique was established with 4{omega} probe laser beam using GDL laser system at LLE, Univ. of Rochester. We have obtained the ionic charge state Z by measuring the second harmonic emission from the ion acoustic decay instability. The LASNEX computer simulation calculations have been carried out. … more

ANL Advanced Photon Source crotch absorber design

Description: The ANL 7-GeV Advanced Photon Source storage ring crotch absorber will be subjected to a very high photon loading power density, approximately 750 W/mm{sup 2} at normal incidence. To accommodate this high heat load, two designs were studied: one is a V-type compound angle absorber and the other is a horizontally rotated plate absorber. For both models, thermal and structural analyses have been carried out using 3-D finite element analysis. The analysis indicates that the V-type compound angle a… more
