Net-energy analysis of a retrofit geothermal-heating system

Description: A net energy analysis was carried out as part of a study of the potential engineering and economic feasibility for geothermal heating of the campus of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The geothermal system design included production and disposal wells, surface facilities and retrofitting of eighteen existing buildings. For a 30-year project life, the net energy ratio was found to be about 7.1.

Hydrogeochemical and stream sediment reconnaissance basic data for Carlsbad quadrangle, New Mexico

Description: Field and laboratory data are presented for 467 water samples and 1680 sediment samples from the Carlsbad Quadrangle, New Mexico. The samples were collected and uranium analysis performed by Los Alamos National Laboratory; multielement analysis and data reporting were performed by the Uranium Resource Evaluation Project at Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Geological and geophysical signatures of the Jemez lineament: a reactivated Precambrian structure

Description: The Jemez lineament (N52/sup 0/E) is one of several northeast-trending lineaments that traverse the southwestern United States. It is defined by a 500-km-long alignment of late Cenozoic volcanic fields extending southwest from at least the Jemez Mountains in the north-central New Mexico to the San Carlos-Peridot volcanic field in east-central Arizona. Rankine cycle generators using geothermal fluids. Final progress report

Description: The Rankine Cycle generator was delivered and installed at Gila Hot Springs. Trial runs were made at that time, using Freon 12 as the expansion fluid. These tests showed that the boiler capacity was inadequate. It could not extract enough heat to generate sufficient volumes of Freon gas at the heat and pressure necessary to operate the system at an acceptable level. Description: Experimental results and re-evaluation of the Phase I Hot Dry Rock Geothermal Energy reservoirs at the Fenton Hill field site are summarized. Reservoir growth is traced. Reservoir growth was caused not only by pressurization and hydraulic fracturing, but also by heat extraction and thermal contraction effects. Evaluation of the second hot dry rock geothermal energy reservoir: results of Phase I, Run Segment 5

Description: The results of a long-term (286 day) flow test of the second hot dry rock reservoir at the Fenton Hill field site are presented.
