History of prior federal action and NEPA documentation for NCPA Project No. 2

Description: The federal actions are documented that were performed to ensure environmental protection during the leasing, exploration, development and utilization of geothermal resources on those public lands of The Geysers KGRA in California associated with the proposed Northern California Power Agency (NCPA) Geothermal Project No. 2. Approval for development of these geothermal resources on public lands in The Geysers KGRA was preceded by extensive environmental analyses conducted over the past decade by… more

Geopressured-geothermal resource development on public free school lands

Description: The study's findings and recommendations are based upon analysis of the following: financial and economic feasibility of geopressured-geothermal resource development; possible ecological, social, and economic impacts of resource development on PFSL; and legal issues associated with resource development. The results of the analysis are summarized and are discussed in detail in a series of four technical papers which accompany this volume. Existing rules of the General Land Office (GLO), the Scho… more

Chemical analyses of waters from geysers, hot springs, and pools in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming from 1974 to 1978

Description: Waters from geysers, hot springs, and pools of Yellowstone National Park have been analyzed. We report 422 complete major ion analyses from 330 different locations of geysers, hot springs, and pools, collected from 1974 to 1978. Many of the analyses from Upper, Midway, Lower, and Norris Geyser Basin are recollections of features previously reported.

Statistical characterization of the federal geothermal leasing and permitting program. Final report, April 18, 1978-January 31, 1979

Description: The ineffectiveness thus far in the federal geothermal leasing program is documented. Leases have been issued on only 18% of non-competitive applications on land under BLM jurisdiction and 2% of applied-for National Forest land. It has taken an average of about two years to get a lease, although the time lapses involved are extremely erratic, and many applications have been pending since January 1974, the first month applications were accepted. Some gradual improvement in BLM performance was de… more

NURE and the National Park Service

Description: Under the National Resource Evaluation (NURE), massive amounts of geological, geochemical, and geophysical data, covering the entire conterminous 48 states and Alaska, are being collected and made public. In addition to NURE goals, these data are applicable to various other researches on and in the vicinity of lands controlled by the National Park Service. Airborne geophysical and hydrogeochemical survey NURE data have been made public for the majority of the area in the combined Mt. McKinley N… more

Potential use of geothermal resources in the Snake River Basin: an environmental overview. Volume II. Annotated bibliography

Description: This volume is a partially annotated bibliography of reference materials pertaining to the seven KGRA's. The bibliography is divided into sections by program element as follows: terrestrial ecology, aquatic ecology, heritage resources, socioeconomics and demography, geology, geothermal, soils, hydrology and water quality, seismicity, and subsidence. Cross-referencing is available for those references which are applicable to specific KGRA's. (MHR)

Potential use of geothermal resources in the Snake River Basin: an environmental overview. Volume I

Description: Environmental baseline data for the Snake River Plain known geothermal resource areas (KGRAs) are evaluated for geothermal development. The objective is to achieve a sound data base prior to geothermal development. These KGRAs are: Vulcan Hot Springs, Crane Creek, Castle Creek, Bruneau, Mountain Home, Raft River, Island Park, and Yellowstone. Air quality, meteorology, hydrology, water quality, soils, land use, geology, subsidence, seismicity, terrestrial and aquatic ecology, demography, socioec… more

Systematic method for resource rating with two applications to potential wilderness areas

Description: A versatile method was developed to rate the energy- and mineral-resource potentials of areas in which land-management and resource-development decisions must be reached with a minimum expenditure of money and time. The method surveys published and personal information on resources in the region being assessed, selects the most appropriate information, synthesizes the information into map overlays and tract descriptions, rates the potential of tracts for particular resources, rates the overall … more
