Effect of sodium pool temperature on grapple drive stem temperatures at seals in CRBRP IVTM

Description: The effect of sodium pool temperature on the grapple drive stem temperatures at the seals of the CRBRP (Clinch River Breeder Reactor Plant) IVTM (In-Vessel Transfer Machine) has been calculated. Reducing the sodium pool temperature from 500 to 400/sup 0/F reduces the maximum grapple drive stem temperature at the seals from 510 to 472/sup 0/F on the initial up-stroke, and from 285 to 225/sup 0/F when system is at dynamic thermal equilibrium. The time the stem can remain in lowered position witho… more

Geothermal systems of northern Nevada

Description: Hot springs are numerous and nearly uniformly distributed in northern Nevada. Most occur on the flanks of basins, along Basin and Range (late Miocene to Holocene) faults, while some occur in the inner parts of the basins. Surface temperatures of the springs range from slightly above ambient to boiling; some springs are superheated. Maximum subsurface water temperatures calculated on the basis of quartz solubility range as high as 252/sup 0/C, although most are below 190/sup 0/C. Flows range fro… more

Program ESTU: a method for estimating estuarine temperature distributions for Harleman's closed-form, one-dimensional model

Description: A method is presented for obtaining accurate numerical results for Harleman's closed-form, one-dimensional estuary model. The model applies to the case of a single-source input, steady net flow, and tidal flow varying sinusoidally with time. Though more sophisticated estuarine computational procedures are now available, this simple, closed-form model may continue to be useful for approximations and parameter surveys. Some general characteristics of temperature distributions as a function o… more

Preliminary thermal/hydraulic sizing calculations for duplex tube evaporator/superheater (interchangeable units). Revision 1

Description: This is a preliminry thermal/hydraulic report reflecting work under Subtask 6.2 of Ref. 1.1. This report is an extension of the previous thermal/hydraulic design report. Parts of this report have been transmitted to GE. The detailed design basis, listed by source, is given. Additional details are discussed.
