Design of Wind Tunnels and Wind Tunnel Propellers, 2

Description: Report presenting a continuation of a previous study in order to supply further data to the designers of wind tunnels. Particular emphasis was placed on the study of directional variation in the wind stream. Normal-pressure tests of circular plates with clamped edges

Description: A fixture is described for making normal-pressure tests of flat plates 5 inches in diameter in which particular care was taken to obtain rigid clamping at the edges. Results are given for 19 plates, ranging in thickness form 0.015 to 0.072 inch. The center deflections and the extreme-fiber stresses at low pressures were found to agree with theoretical values; the center deflections at high pressures were 4 to 12 percent greater than the theoretical values. Normal-pressure tests of rectangular plates

Determination of stresses in gas-turbine disks subjected to plastic flow and creep

Quantitative Treatment of the Creep of Metals by Dislocation and Rate-Process Theories

Critical combinations of shear and transverse direct stress for an infinitely long flat plate with edges elastically restrained against rotation

A study of elastic and plastic stress concentration factors due to notches and fillets in flat plates

Description: Six large 24s-t3 aluminum-alloy-sheet specimens containing various notches or fillets were tested in tension to determine their stress concentration factors in both the elastic and plastic ranges. A variational theorem for creep with applications to plates and columns

Description: A variational theorem is presented for a body undergoing creep. Solutions to problems of the creep behavior of plates, columns, beams, and shells can be obtained by means of the direct methods of the calculus of variations in conjunction with the stated theorem. A Special Investigation to Develop a General Method for Three-Dimensional Photoelastic Stress Analysis

Description: The method of strain measurement after annealing is reviewed and found to be satisfactory for the materials available in this country. A new general method is described for the photoelastic determination of the principal stresses at any point of a general body subjected to arbitrary load.
