Richland five-year 02 R&D program, plutonium-238

Description: There are three principal facets to the Pu-238 Program which are important to Richland. First, reactor neptunium production rates can be materially enhanced by judicious fuel management plans. Second, significant improvement in production efficiency and costs can be made if the Pu-238 production step (irradiation of Np-237) were sited at Richland. Further, Richland reactors have ample capacity, without reducing power, to irradiate all neptunium from government and commercial reactor sources which has been forecasted well into the 1980`s. Third, a separate Pu-238 production process, that of irradiating Am-241 (obtained from power reactor plutonium returns), offers an attractive and competitive means to materially supplement Pu-238 from the Np-237 route. The first two of these aspects of the Pu-238 Program are being pursued actively, particularly in light of firm and predicted requirements for Pu-238. Technological development for irradiating and processing Am-241 will be carried out in the near future.

Iron-masonite shield status interim report No. 6

Description: This is number six in a planned series of reports intended to show the status and rates of deterioration of the iron-masonite biological shields of B, Dg DR, F, and H reactors. Since DR, F, and H reactors are in the deactivated state this is the final such report for them. Following the deactivation of D Reactor at the end of June, 1967, B Reactor will be the only one (out of the five with which the shield deterioration study began) to continue operating. Data for this report pertain to the top and left (far) side of the reactors and covers the period from January, 1963, through December, 1966.

Music Education in the Protestant Church

Description: The purpose of this study was to determine and describe ways in which music education can be used in Protestant churches. During the last twenty years, participation in church music has grown very rapidly. The increase is a result of the growth of music in general. Music has become an important part of home, school, church, and community functions. This is evidenced by many facts: symphony orchestras, as well as community instrumental and choral groups have increased in number to the extent that there are more today than at any time in history; school music has taken tremendous strides since 19257 and church music programs have been developed to such a degree that they attract large numbers of people. In spite of the tremendous advance of music in general, and in the field of church music in particular, there is still much that needs to be done in church music. For example, when "Sacred Music" is mentioned to an average group of Americans, some will respond with blank and uninterested stares. Others will mention some of the well-worn sentimentalized, semi-religious songs such as "He," "The Man Upstairs," "You'll Never Walk Alone," or other examples of commercialized religion, Those people, and the environment in which they live, need to be reached with the music of the church that can speak to them with real meaning and truth.

The Relationship between the Interaction of Two Anxiety Variables and Creative Production

Description: It is evident that educators and industrial psychologists alike recognize the effect that situational climate may have upon creative production. The present study will, hopefully, contribute some useful information leading to a better definition of the relationship between anxiety and creative production, which will lead in time to suggestions regarding the essential conditions of an optimum creative climate. The exploration of some of the aspects involved in situational climates is the point of departure for the present study.
