Preliminary Report on Diamond-Drill Exploration and Plans for Additional Drilling in Long Park and Vicinity, Montrose County, Colorado

Description: From abstract and summary: Long Park and vicinity is in T. 47 N., R. 17 W., Montrose County, Colo. The U. S. Geological Survey started a program of drilling in the area in April 1949, to find deposits that might be developed into new mines and to appraise the reserves of the area. This drilling was done during two periods of time under separate contracts.

The Distribution of Uranium-Vanadium Deposits in the Colorado Plateau Relative to Tertiary Intrusive Masses

Description: Introduction: Studies of uranium-vanadium occurrences in the Four Corners region show that, with the exception of the Lukachuai area, all of the major deposits in the Morrison formation are grouped around the various igneous masses which are scattered irregularly throughout the Colorado Plateau. The pattern of deposition varies from mountain group to mountain group and each will be described separately. Maps accompany this report to supplement the descriptions of ore occurrences in the vicinity… more

Earthquake Resistance of Earth and Rock-Fill Dams, Report 2: Analysis of Response of Rifle Gap Dam to Project Rulison Underground Nuclear Detonation

Description: Summary: The motion of Rifle Gap Dam was measured in September 1969 during the Project RULISON underground nuclear explosion. The observed response was then compared with the response computed in a mathematical model. Observed and computed responses were similar. From this study it appears that the mathematical models used are applicable to the design and analysis of soil structures, at least for ground motion intensities comparable to those observed at Rifle Gap Dam. Geology and Uranium Deposits of Part of the Browns Park Formation, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah: a Preliminary Report

Description: From abstract: Uranium deposits and radioactivity anomalies have been found in the eastern half of the area underlain by the Browns Park formation in northwestern Colorado, south-central Wyoming, and northeastern Utah. The deposits are in eolian, lacustrine, and fluvial sandstones, tuffaceous sandstones, and limestones all of which were deposited on two converging pediments during Miocene time. At least one eastern and one western facies of lacustrine and fluvial sedimentary rocks are separated… more
