Physical simulations of cavity closure in a creeping material

Description: The finite element method has been used extensively to predict the creep closure of underground petroleum storage cavities in rock salt. Even though the numerical modeling requires many simplifying assumptions, the predictions have generally correlated with field data from instrumented wellheads, however, the field data are rather limited. To gain an insight into the behavior of three-dimensional arrays of cavities and to obtain a larger data base for the verification of analytical simulations … more

Description: A Vapor Therm generator capable of producing steam and inert gases was built for conditions encountered in the Carlyle pool, and is capable of delivering heated gases at 900 psi and 700/sup 0/F. New wells were drilled in a five spot pattern with an inter-well distance of 208.7 ft. Logs and cores from these new wells were obtained and the subsurface reservoir was evaluated. Oil content of 1197 BSTO/Ac-Ft was encountered. This oil was 19.5/sup 0/ API with a viscosity of 1026 cps at 70/sup 0/F. Th… more

North Stanley project tertiary recovery project Osage County, Oklahoma

Description: Oil production for September averaged 631 BOPD, 146 BPD above the estimated production without polymer. The decreased oil production and increased water production caused the first appreciable increase in WOR (to 52 : 1) since the start of polymer injection in June 1976. Oil production increased at 10 wells and decreased at 11 wells. Tables, figures. (DLC)

Paris Valley Combination Thermal Drive Pilot Demonstration Test. Final report

Description: A wet combustion pilot within the Paris Valley Field, Monterey County, California was initiated in January, 1975 in order to determine the technical and economic feasibility of this enhanced recovery process within a sandstone reservoir having a very viscous crude. Cyclic steaming was also performed and evaluated. Due to the low oil production rates, which were not capable of offsetting the high operating costs, the pilot was terminated during March, 1979. Eighteen producing wells, five air inj… more

Manufacturing fuel-switching capability, 1988

Description: Historically, about one-third of all energy consumed in the United States has been used by manufacturers. About one-quarter of manufacturing energy is used as feedstocks and raw material inputs that are converted into nonenergy products; the remainder is used for its energy content. During 1988, the most recent year for which data are available, manufacturers consumed 15.5 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu) of energy to produce heat and power and to generate electricity. The manufacturing … more

New Mexico's energy resources '81. Annual report of Bureau of Geology in the Mining and Minerals Division of New Mexico Energy and Minerals Department

Description: Although production of U/sub 3/O/sub 8/ declined only slightly in 1980, New Mexico's share of domestic production has declined from 48% in 1976 to 35% in 1980. Production projections indicate a continued decline in 1981 and lower production until at least 1984. New Mexico has 41% of total domestic reserves producible in the $50-per-lb cost category. In keeping with the anticipated steady depletion of reserves, production of crude oil in New Mexico was 69.9 million bls, a 6.3% decline in product… more

Development of technology for entrainer-enhanced CO sub 2 flooding

Description: The results of studies conducted to evaluate the development of the technology for utilizing entrainers for carbon dioxide (CO{sub 2}) flooding are described. Experiments were conducted to determine the extent of the fluid-property enhancement (gas-phase density and viscosity) of CO{sub 2} + hydrocarbon and CO{sub 2} + crude oil systems in the presence of selected entrainers (cosolvents). The improvement in CO{sub 2}-rich phase hydrocarbon extraction capacity was also determined in the presence… more

Sensitivity analysis of world oil prices. Analysis report AR/IA/79-47

Description: An analysis of the impact of the political disruption in Iran on the world oil market is presented. During the first quarter of 1979, this disruption caused a loss of approximately 5 million barrels per day (MMBD) of oil production available for export from Iran to the rest of the world. This loss of production and the political climate in Iran have caused much speculation concerning future Iranian oil production and total Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) oil production in t… more
