Overexpression of native carbonic anhydrases increases carbon conversion efficiency in the methanotrophic biocatalyst Methylococcus capsulatus Bath

Description: In this article authors show that M. capsulatus expresses five carbonic anhydrase (CA) isoforms, one α-CA, one γ-CA, and three β-CAs, that play a role in its inorganic carbon metabolism and CO2-dependent growth. The authors developed an engineered methanotrophic biocatalyst overexpressing the native α-CA and β-CA with a 2.5-fold improvement in the conversion of CH4 to biomass.

Radiation versus environmental degradation in unencapsulated metal halide perovskite solar cells

Description: In this article the radiation hardness of metal halide perovskite solar cells exposed to space conditions versus the effects of environmental degradation are assessed. Experimental evidence suggests the NiOx/perovskite interface is particularly sensitive to the effects of humidity and/or temperature exposure, while the irradiation of the devices appears to induce thermally activated annealing: improving the solar cells upon radiation exposure.

Simultaneous Consideration of System Design and Post-Production Support Network Decisions in the Context of a Performance-Based Contract

Description: This research leverages the tenets of performance-based contracting, especially its foundation in transactional cost economics and management control theory, and agency theory, to develop and test an analytical model. This research proposes a novel, analytical model that maximizes the profit margin of a large-scale, complex system simultaneously considering its design and post-production support network.

Developmental plasticity of the cardiovascular system in oviparous vertebrates: effects of chronic hypoxia and interactive stressors in the context of climate change

Description: The authors of this article discuss and compare the phenotypic consequences of chronic developmental hypoxia on the cardiovascular system of oviparous vertebrates. Although important progress has been made, the authors' review identifies knowledge gaps that need to be addressed to fully understand the impact of climate change on the developmental plasticity of the oviparous vertebrate cardiovascular system.

Behavioral nudges in social media ads show limited ability to encourage COVID-19 vaccination across countries

Description: This article asserts that behavioral nudges in Facebook ads reached nearly 15 million people across six diverse countries and, consequently, many thousands took the step of navigating to governments’ vaccine signup sites. However, none of the treatment ads caused significantly more vaccine signup intent than placebo uniformly across all countries. The authors found that in all, widely touted behavioral nudges often failed to promote vaccine signup intent and appear to be moderated by cultural c… more

Baker's yeast beta glucan supplementation was associated with an improved innate immune mRNA expression response after exercise

Description: This article states that beta glucans are found in many natural sources, however, only Baker’s Yeast Beta Glucan (BYBG) has been well documented to have structure–function effects that are associated with improved innate immune response to stressors (e.g., exercise, infection, etc.). The identified mRNA whose expression was altered after exercise with BYBG may represent an innate immune response pattern and supports previous conclusions that BYBG improves immune response to a future sterile inf… more
