REACTIVITY CALIBRATIONS AND FISSION-RATE DISTRIBUTIONS IN AN UNMODERATED, UNREFLECTED URANIUM-MOLYBDENUM ALLOY RESEARCH PROGRAM

Description: Completion of zero-power critical experiments with the ORNL Health Physics Research Reactor is reported. A description is given concerning these experiments which were used to determine the critical size, fission-rate distributions, reactivity calibrations of its movable parts, the temperature coefficient of reactivity, and the reactivity effects of the presence of neutron- reflecting materials adjacent to the reactor. Electrostatic turbulence and transport in the RFP edge

Description: This thesis details measurements of electrostatic turbulence and transport in the Madison Symmetric Torus reversed field pinch. The electrostatic fluctuation levels are found to be large, with {tilde n}{sub e}/n{sub e} {approximately} 30%--55% and {tilde T}{sub e}/T{sub e} {approximately} 15%--40%. The structure of perturbative quantum gravity on a de Sitter background

Description: Classical gravitation on de Sitter space suffers from a linearization instability. One consequence is that the response to a spatially localized distribution of positive energy cannot be globally regular. We use this fact to show that no causal Green's function can give the correct linearized response to certain bilocalized distributions, even though these distributions obey the constraints of linearization stability. Description: A numerical model designed for the study of mesoscale weather phenomena is presented. It is a three-dimensional, time-dependent model based upon a mesoscale primitive-equation system, and it includes parameterizations of cloud and precipitation processes, boundary-layer transfers, and ground surface energy and moisture budgets. Safety Calculations for MsSRE

Description: A number of conceivable reactivity accidents were analyzed, using conservatively pessimistic assumptions and approximations, to permit evaluation of reactor safety. Edge gradient and safety factor effects on electrostatic turbulent transport in tokamaks

MHD computation of feedback of resistive-shell instabilities in the reversed field pinch

Description: MHD computation demonstrates that feedback can sustain reversal and reduce loop voltage in resistive-shell reversed field pinch (RFP) plasmas. Edge feedback on {approximately}2R/a tearing modes resonant near axis is found to restore plasma parameters to nearly their levels with a close-fitting conducting shell. Dworshak Dam Impact (Impacts) Assessment and Fishery Investigation.

Description: Kokanee abundance, estimated from July trawl data, was 1.2 million fish in 1988, including 553,000 fry, 501,000 yearlings and 156,000 subadults. Spawning trend data indicated escapement was up threefold compared to 1987, despite a sport harvest of 207,000 kokanee averaging 258 mm caught at a rate of 1.5 fish per hour. Passive test cell data for the solar laboratory, Winter 1980-81

Description: Testing was done during the 1980-81 winter in 400 ft/sup 3/ test cells at the Los Alamos National Laboratory Solar Lab.
