Some Effects of Learning the Causes of Behavior upon Certain Personal and Social Attitudes of Pre-Adolescent Children

Description: The problem of the present study is to determine what changes will take place in certain personal and social attitudes of pre-adolescent children at the fourth- and fifth-grade levels as a result of their "having learned about the factors that underlie behavior" through a mental hygiene program utilizing "causally" oriented materials at their own level of interest and understanding.

A Comparative Analysis of Selected Characteristics of Intellectually Superior Male Students who Persist and Those who do not Persist in an Advanced Placement Program

Description: This study made a comparative analysis of certain selected characteristics of a group of academically able male youth who persisted and those who did not persist in a five-year academic sequence in mathematics and science. Two major questions were dealt with in this study: 1. Can the persisting youth as a group be distinguished from those youth who did not persist in this academic sequence on the basis of their functioning in certain nonintellective areas? 2. Are the performances of the persisting youth on certain dimensions elevated in the same directions as are the performances of mature creatives who have been intensively studied on the same dimensions?

A Comparative Analysis of Selected Characteristics of Intellectually Superior Female Students who Persisted and Those who did not Persist in an Advanced Placement Program

Description: This study was undertaken to make a comparative analysis of selected nonintellective characteristics of intellectually superior female students who persisted and those who did not persist in an Advanced Placement Program offering sequentially planned course offerings in mathematics and science. A second dimension of the study was an investigation of selected nonintellective traits to determine if the students' scores are elevated in the same direction as those of superior female adults who have been studied on essentially the same dimensions.

The Effect of Memory Requirement on Schema Learning

Description: A number of previous investigations have suggested that schema learning would be more readily facilitated by a recognition task than a reproduction task due to the increased memory requirement of the reproduction task. Differential memory requirements of 0, 4, 8, 16 and 32 seconds were imposed on 50 Ss in a recognition task to determine if increased memory requirements improved schema learning in the same mode as the reproduction task. The results indicated no significant improvement in schema learning with increased memory requirement. The data does suggest negative transfer from reproduction to recognition task. Recommendations for design and procedural improvements are included.

The Development and Validation of an Inventory of Academic Requirements for Criminal Justice Education

Description: The purpose of this study was to develop a concept of higher education which would be responsive to the needs of criminal justice. The study sought first to identify from both the popular and professional literature the principal roles of the three main component areas of criminal justice (police, courts, and corrections). Second, the study sought to identify those fundamental areas of knowledge which would support the common criminal justice roles; and, finally, the study sought to formulate the essential items of knowledge thus developed into an inventory of academic requirements for criminal justice education and to validate that inventory by subjecting it to the scrutiny of a panel of experts for their evaluation.
