Description: Currently, several innovative technologies are being demonstrated at Tinker Air Force Base (TAFB) to address specific problems associated with remediating two contaminated test sites at the base. Development of a correlation between slurry oil composition and process performance. Topical report 1. Analyses of slurry recycle oils from H-Coal PDU Run 5

Description: Daily samples of the slurry recycle oil from the 30-day H-Coal PDU Run 5 (Syncrude mode, Illinois 6 coal) were analyzed by /sup 1/H-NMR spectroscopy GS/MS, and liquid chromatographic techniques. The recycle oils composition in PDU Run 5 reached an initial steady-state at about day 12, but this was upset when the hydrogen partial pressure was increased on day 20. Description: This project is designed to develop methods for pre-combustion coal remediation by implementing recent advances in enzyme biochemistry. The novel approach of this study is incorporation of hydrophilic oxidative enzymes in reverse micelles in an organic solvent. Thermophysical properties of coal liquids. Final report. [300 to 600 K]

Description: Thermophysical properties for coal-solvent slurries were determined in the range 300 to 600 K, in some cases extending to 700 K. Density, viscosity, thermal conductivity, and enthalpy were determined. A recycle solvent from the Wilsonville SRC-I plant and a KY-9 coal were used. Rheology was studied with a reciprocating cylinder viscometer designed to operate at elevated pressure and temperature. Viscous properties were found to follow the Bingham plastic model. Chemical Kinetic Modeling of Hydrogen Combustion Limits

Description: A detailed chemical kinetic model is used to explore the flammability and detonability of hydrogen mixtures. In the case of flammability, a detailed chemical kinetic mechanism for hydrogen is coupled to the CHEMKIN Premix code to compute premixed, laminar flame speeds.
