Development of ultrafiltration and inorganic adsorbents for reducing volumes of low-level and intermediate-level liquid waste: January--March 1978

Description: The exposure of noncellulosic ultrafiltration membranes to a radioactive environment simulating up to 24 months of exposure to a beta dose of 10 ..mu..Ci/cm/sup 3/ and a gamma dose of 10/sup -5/ ..mu..Ci/cm/sup 3/ did not show any conclusive evidence of membrane degradation. Viscosity measurements for control membranes and irradiated membranes indicate no changes in polymer molecular weight were caused by the radiation exposure. Role of gas pressure and lateral stress on blistering

Description: Both gas pressure in bubbles and lateral stress have been suggested as primary causes of blistering. An analysis of both mechanisms is presented, and the conditions for blistering are examined. To realistically predict the gas pressure in bubbles, a recently derived high-density equation of state for helium is utilized.

Electron irradiation effects in YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-delta/ single crystals

Description: Defect structures in YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7/minus/delta/ produced by electron irradiation at 300/degree/K, were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Threshold energies for the production of visible defects were determined to b 152 keV and 131 keV (+- 7 keV) in directions near the a- and b-axes, respectively (b > a, both perpendicular to c, the long axis in the orthorhombic structure). Description: In this paper we have attempted to quantify the health effects in man of uv-radiation exposure of wavelengths from 240 nm to 320 nm. Cancer risks and neutron RBE's from Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Description: The new radiation dose estimates for Hiroshima and Nagasaki are here combined with epidemiologic data from the A-bomb survivors and examined radiobiologically for compatability with other human and experimental data. The new doses show certain improvements over the original T65 doses. Irradiation effects on the electrochemistry and corrosion resistance of stainless steel

Description: Nickel-ion irradiation at 500{degrees}C is shown to have a strong effect on the surface electrochemistry and intergranular corrosion of stainless steel. Description: A coextruded 2-inch-diameter tubular fuel element of U-2 wt% Zr alloy clad with Zircaloy-2 was irradiated in the Vallecitos Boiling Water Reactor to 1280 Mwd/t burnup with a maximum core temperature of 433 deg C.
