NAL bubble chamber proposal: K-p and p anti-p interactions at 200 GeV

Description: We propose to study K{sup -}p and {bar p}p interactions at 200 GeV in the hydrogen filled NAL 30'' bubble chamber with a supplementary visual spectrometer. We request 200,000 pictures. This exposure is intended as a follow up experiment to our proposal ''Multiparticle {pi}{sup -}p Interactions at 130 GeV and at the Highest Energy'' of April 23, 1971.

An Investigation of the Components of the Neutral Beam Produced by High Energy Protons at Nal Using the 30 Inch Bubble Chamber

Description: We wish to search for new neutral particles by investigating the composition of a wide angle neutral beam produced by high energy protons on a Be target. Photons in the beam will be removed by a Pb converter. The resultant neutral beam will be incident on the 30 inch bubble chamber. The composition of the beam will be determined from the kinematic analysis of selected interactions in the bubble chamber, through the decays of neutral particles and through possible anomalies in the hydrogen inter… more

Search for Mossbauer type nuclear collisions with the high energy protons

Description: The collision of a high energy projectile with a massive target (nucleon cluster) can considerably increase the center of mass energy available at NAL. In some cases such as neutrino interactions, the increased center mass energy might conceivably be ''traded'' for higher neutrino energies. Thus determination of the characteristics and the fraction of collisions with nuclei that involve large target masses is of interest. We propose to attempt such a determination using sever (A, Z) targets pla… more

SPECIFIC PROTONATION OF THE CARCINOGEN 7, 12-DIMETHYIBENZ [a]ANTHRACENE AND CHARGE LOCALIZATION IN THE a-COMPLEX

Description: In the class of the polycondensed aromatic hydrocarbons, the concept of localized charge in a {sigma}-complex, e.g., the carbonium ion formed by addition of a proton or other electrophile to an aromatic ring, has so far received experimental evidence only in the case of anthracene. The ultraviolet spectrum of this compound in sulfuric acid is similar to that of the benzhydryl cation. Ph{sub c}C{sup +}Me. This result implies the protonation of anthracene at one meso-carbon atom and the localizat… more

A proposal to study slow secondary particle distributions in pi -p and pp reactions in the 30 inch bubble chamber

Description: A set of runs for the 30 inch hydrogen bubble chamber for {pi}{sup -} and proton at various momenta is proposed for a total of 200,000 useable fames. The runs are aimed at providing quick answers to questions relating to the limiting fragmentation hypothesis as well as a preliminary survey of multiparticle final states.

Mechanism Op Action Op P-Hydroxybenzoate Hybrozylase Frompseudomonas Putida. Iii. The Enzyme-Subtrate Complex

Description: The mechanism of action of p-hydroxybenzoate hydroxylase from Pseudomonas putida, strain M-6, has been investigated. The aromatic substrate analogues, benzoate, p-fluorobenzoate, p-chlorobenzoate, p-nitrobenzoate, p-aminobenzoate, and 6-hydroxynicotinate, are found to be competitive inhibitors. This finding differs from the previously reported noncompetitive behavior in a different buffer system. The optical activity of the enzyme-inhibitor complex is studied. From the kinetic and circular dich… more
