[Manuscript Leaf from 13th Century, Germany?]

Description: 13th-century German manuscript leaf. Double column, transitional Caroline/gothic hand. Text from a Lectionary(Matthew 13:15 - 13:21, in which Christ explains to his disciples why he speaks in parables). Written by an accomplished scribe, with capitals, ampersands, ligatures, and fishtail-like terminations at the top of ascenders indicate that the script is transitional, from the late Caroline to the early gothic. Recovered from a bound book.

[Manuscript Leaf from 15th Century, Germany]

Description: A manuscript leaf from 15th Century, Germany. The manuscript leaf is laid out with two (2) columns and scribed in late Gothic script. There are musical neums on 4-line staff (by the 16th-century the 5-line staff became more standardized) Breviary. The manuscript leaf was created on vellum parchment and used both red, blue, and black gall ink for the script. The leaf is labelled as page twenty-one (21).

Description: A leaf from a book of sermons, (Germany, 15th century) on paper, with watermark just barely visible (type uncertain: possibly "Etoile" type of Briquet 6067-6071, dated variously from 1422 to 1477 (see: C.M. Briquet, Les Filigranes, 1907, reprinted 1967, vol. 3), or handwritten.

Description: Engraved portrait of German Catholic Archbishop Johann Von Schonenburgh, circa 1500-1600. The plate has the portrait framed by ornate scroll work including the face of a cherub, pears and ribbons. The description directly under the portrait reads "Religion and Wisdom".

Abbey Church of Ottobeuren

Description: The view is straight up into the cupolas and shows the paintings with their relief texture encircling the frescoes. The arrangement of the subject matter in the paintings enhances the cupola shape. The subject matter appears to be scenes from the the life of St. Benedict, the Pentecost, and redemption.
