Description: Passivity breakdown of 316L SS in the presence of aggressive Cl{sup -} and inhibitive NO{sub 3}{sup -} anions has been experimentally studied and the results have been interpreted in terms of the Point Defect Model (PDM). Non-additive sputtering of niobium and tantalum as large neutral and ion clusters.

Description: An analysis of available literature data on both the positive ion emission from Nb and Ta bombarded by 6 keV/atom Au{sub m}{sup -} atomic and molecular ions (m=1, 2, 3) and positive ionization probabilities of Nb{sub n} and Ta{sub n} neutral clusters sputtered from the same metals by 5 keV Ar{sup +} ions have been conducted. Characterization and Performance of Fluidized Bed Steam Reforming (FBSR) Product as a Final Waste Form

Description: A demonstration of Fluidized Bed Steam Reforming (FBSR) was recently completed on a Hanford Low Activity Waste (LAW) simulant. This technology produced stable mineral phases (feldspathoids) when co-fired with clay. The mineral phases are cage structured and were determined to retain anions as well as cations such as Re (simulant for Tc) in the mineral cages. Description: Electro-osmosis, a coupled-flow phenomenon in which an applied electrical potential gradient drives water flow, may be used to induce water flow through fine-grained sediments. Toward crystal design in organic conductors and superconductors.

Description: We have seen that many different types of intermolecular interactions in organic conducting cation radical salts. Hydrogen bonding between the donor molecules and the anions is weak but not negligible. Gas Ionization by Beam Electron Collisions and by Electron Avalanching in the Self Ez Field of a 2 kA Relativistic Electron Beam Focused on a Conducting Target

Description: About 1.5 x 10{sup 12} positive ions are predicted to be required to disrupt the focusing (for 0.25 cm radius and 0.2 electric neutralization fraction). Beam electron collisions are predicted to produce this number in 20 ns with 6 x 10{sup 15} water molecules/cm{sup 2}. Electron avalanching is predicted to be intense at time zero in a gas layer about 10{sup -3} cm thick with 1.4 x 10{sup 16} cm{sup -2}. Modified Magnetic Ground State in Nimn (2) O (4) Thin Films

Description: The authors demonstrate the stabilization of a magnetic ground state in epitaxial NiMn{sub 2}O{sub 4} (NMO) thin films not observed in their bulk counterpart. Bulk NMO exhibits a magnetic transition from a paramagnetic phase to a collinear ferrimagnetic moment configuration below 110 K and to a canted moment configuration below 70 K.
