Review of monitoring instruments for transuranics in fuel fabrication and reprocessing plants. A progress report to the physical and technological programs, Division of Biomedical and Environmental Research, U. S. Energy Research and Development Administration

Description: A comprehensive review of the monitoring instruments for transuranic elements released from nuclear fuel fabrication and reprocessing plants has been compiled. The extent of routine operational releases has been reviewed for the light water reactor (LWR) fuel cycle (including plutonium recycle), the breeder reactor fuel cycle, and the high-temperature gas cooled reactor (HTGR) fuel cycle. The stack monitoring instrumentation presently in use at the various fabrication and reprocessing plants ar… more

Late Wash Cross-Flow Filter Organic Balance

Description: A recent DOE-Savannah River review of the results and data from the Late Washing Crossflow Fitter assessment identified the fate of biphenyl as a concern in the Late Washing material balance. The concern arose because after the late washing operation only about 40% of the biphenyl remained in the irradiated precipitate and analyses of the spent wash water stream did not account for the missing biphenyl [2]. This document summarizes the results of subsequent filtration studies on the behavior an… more

METALLURGY DIVISION ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT FOR PERIOD ENDING SEPTEMBER 1, 1959

Description: 7 = 9 9 9 9 7 7 7 = 9 9 9 95 : > @ 9 ; 5 8 @ = K : . ighpurity Nb deformed by impact or slow compression at - 196 deg C. An apparent phase transformation was detected in high- purity Ga deformed at 4.2 deg K. The specific heat of the group IV-A metals and alloys of Zr-In and Zr-Sn were measured from 1.2 to 4.5 deg K. In the Zr-rich portion of the Zr-Ga phase diagram, the alpha / beta phase boundaries of Zr are depressed by additions of Ga and the beta phase decomposes by a eutectoid reaction. T… more
