Multiplicity and charged particle emission in relativistic heavy ion collisions. [Cross sections, statistical thermodynamic models]

Description: Single-particle inclusive cross sections of precisely identified fragments are studied together with associated multiplicities of fast charged particles. Neon and argon projectiles are made to bombard uranium, calcium, and aluminium. It is found that all the observed fragment spectra are structureless and more or less exponentially decaying throughout the range of studied fragment masses. A catalogue of experimentally found qualitative features is given and the applicability of simple statistic… more

A Survey of Probabilistic Models for Relational Data

Description: Traditional data mining methodologies have focused on ''flat'' data i.e. a collection of identically structured entities, assumed to be independent and identically distributed. However, many real-world datasets are innately relational in that they consist of multi-modal entities and multi-relational links (where each entity- or link-type is characterized by a different set of attributes). Link structure is an important characteristic of a dataset and should not be ignored in modeling efforts, e… more

Modeled Neutron and Charged-Particle Induced Nuclear Reaction Cross Sections for Radiochemistry in the Region of Yttrium, Zirconium, Niobium, and Molybdenum

Description: We have developed a set of modeled nuclear reaction cross sections for use in radiochemical diagnostics. Systematics for the input parameters required by the Hauser-Feshbach statistical model were developed and used to calculate neutron, proton, and deuteron induced nuclear reaction cross sections for targets ranging from strontium (Z = 38) to rhodium (Z = 45).

The Structure of the Cubic Coincident Site Lattice Rotation Group

Description: This work is intended to be a mathematical underpinning for the field of grain boundary engineering and its relatives. The interrelationships within the set of rotations producing coincident site lattices in cubic crystals are examined in detail. Besides combining previously established but widely scattered results into a unified context, the present work details newly developed representations of the group structure in terms of strings of generators (based on quaternionic number theory, and in… more

Effects of LWR coolant environments on fatigue lives of austenitic stainless steels.

Description: Fatigue tests have been conducted on Types 304 and 316NG stainless steels to evaluate the effects of various material and loading variables, e.g., steel type, strain rate, dissolved oxygen (DO) in water, and strain range, on the fatigue lives of these steels. The results confirm significant decreases in fatigue life in water. Unlike the situation with ferritic steels, environmental effects on Types 304 and 316NG stainless steel are more pronounced in low-DO than in high-DO water. Experimental r… more
