Subcritical Measurements Research Program for Fresh and Spent Materials Test Reactor Fuels

Description: 'A series of subcritical noise measurements were performed on fresh and spent University of Missouri Research Reactor fuel assemblies. These experimental measurements were performed for the purposes of providing benchmark quality data for validating transport theory computer codes and nuclear cross-section data used to perform criticality safety analyses for highly enriched, uranium-aluminum Material Test Reactor fuel assemblies. A mechanical test rig was designed and built to hold up to four f… more

Flowsheet for shear/leach processing of N Reactor fuel at PUREX

Description: This document was originally prepared to support the restart of the PUREX plant using a new Shear/Leach head end process. However, the PUREX facility was shutdown and processing of the remaining N Reactor fuel is no longer considered an alternative for fuel disposition. This document is being issued for reference only to document the activities which were investigated to incorporate the shear/leach process in the PUREX plant.

K Reactor Pu-238 demonstration results (Interim report PTA-063)

Description: During the first half of FY-1968, a test irradiation of neptunium was performed in KE Reactor. The basic objectives of this test were to show the reactor capability for irradiating neptunium target elements in an elevated flux; demonstrate the charge-discharge of several of the target columns during reactor operation; and establish the Pu-238 production characteristics of the K-type reactor. These objectives were successfully met. This document reports the results and conclusions derived in mee… more

On the Rossi-{alpha} measurement of {beta}{sub eff} in reflected reactors

Description: In unreflected reactors, the probability of detecting chain-related counts is given by the well known Rossi-{alpha} expression. Using this the author derives an expression for the effective delayed neutron fraction, {beta}. He demonstrates that this expression for {beta} is equally applicable for a reflected systems in which two alphas are experimentally observed.

Upgrade of the NCSU PULSTAR instrumentation power channels. Final technical report, September 1, 1992--August 31, 1994

Description: The Nuclear Reactor Program at North Carolina State University initiated an upgrade program at the NCSU PULSTAR Reactor in 1990. The originally supplied instrumentation has been replaced with solid-state and current technology equipment. The financial assistance from the US Department of Energy has been the primary source of support. This is the final report for the Instrumentation Upgrade.

ZPPR progress report: February 1988 through April 1988

Description: Results are presented for control rod worth experiments in the axially heterogeneous assembly ZPPR-17, a part of the JUPITER-III program. From the earlier metal-fuel ZPPR-15 program, results are given for measurements and calculations of neutron spectra and sodium voiding in several configurations.

Spent Nuclear Fuel Project technical baseline document. Fiscal year 1995: Volume 1, Baseline description

Description: This document is a revision to WHC-SD-SNF-SD-002, and is issued to support the individual projects that make up the Spent Nuclear Fuel Project in the lower-tier functions, requirements, interfaces, and technical baseline items. It presents results of engineering analyses since Sept. 1994. The mission of the SNFP on the Hanford site is to provide safety, economic, environmentally sound management of Hanford SNF in a manner that stages it to final disposition. This particularly involves K Basin f… more

Dismantling techniques

Description: Most of the dismantling techniques used in a Decontamination and Dismantlement (D and D) project are taken from conventional demolition practices. Some modifications to the techniques are made to limit exposure to the workers or to lessen the spread of contamination to the work area. When working on a D and D project, it is best to keep the dismantling techniques and tools as simple as possible. The workers will be more efficient and safer using techniques that are familiar to them. Prior exper… more
