Flight Measurements of the Flying Qualities of a Lockheed P-80A Airplane (Army No. 44-85099): Longitudinal-Stability and -Control Characteristics

Description: This report contains the flight-test results of the longitudinal-stability and -control phase of a general flying qualities investigation of the Lockheed P-80A airplane (Army No. 44-85099). The tests were conducted at indicated airspeeds up to 530 miles per hour (0.76 Mach number) at low altitude and up to 350 miles per hour (0.82) Mach number) at high altitude. The Effect of Increased Cooling Surface on Performance of Aircraft-Engine Cylinders as Shown by Tests of the NACA Cylinder

Description: A method of constructing fins of nearly optimum proportions has been developed by the NACA to the point where a cylinder has been manufactured and tested. Data were obtained on cylinder temperature for a wide range of inlet-manifold pressures, engine speeds, and cooling-pressure differences. Some effects of body cross-sectional shape, including sunken-canopy design, on drag as shown by rocket-powered-model tests at Mach numbers from 0.8 to 1.5

Description: Report presenting free-flight tests made with four fin-stabilized bodies of fineness ratio 8.91 to determine the effect of body cross-sectional shape on body drag at a range of Mach and Reynolds numbers. Results regarding the curve of drag coefficients, drag on the nose and body, and body pressure drag are provided.

Analysis of V-g records from the Grumman F8F-2 airplane

Description: From Introduction: "In the present paper, which supplements reference 1, V-g records obtained from F8F-2 airplanes in 1949 are analyzed statistically to determine the frequency of experiencing large values of normal load factor and airspeed.
