Description: Average pressure of 1 x 10/sup -11/ torr and vacuum stability are necessary for the successful operation of the proton storage rings such as ISABELLE. Vacuum degassing at high temperature and in situ bake-out will reduce the thermoout-gassing rate of the beam tubes to approx. 10/sup -13/ Tl/cm/sup 2/ sec, therefore achieving the required static pressure. Vertical borehole design and completion practices used to remove methane gas from mineable coalbeds

Description: Coalbed gas drainage from the surface in advance of mining has long been the goal of researchers in mine safety. Feasibility of no-proppant stimulation to enhance removal of methane from the Mary Lee Coalbed

Description: One experimental approach to hydraulic stimulation is to use fluid to propagate fractures but not to incorporate solid proppant material in the design. The elimination of solid material negates problems related to wellbore sand proppant influx and allows better fracture height control since extremely low injection rates can be used. PDX neutral-beam reionization losses

Description: Reionization losses for 1.5 MW H/sup 0/ and 2 MW D/sup 0/ neutral beams injected into the PDX tokamak were studied using pressure gauges, photo-transistors, thermocouples, surface shielding, and surface sample analysis. Considerable outgassing of conventionally prepared 304SS ducts occurred during initial injections and gradually decreased with the cumulative absorption of beam power. Study of Hydrocarbon-Shale Interaction. Progress Report No. 4, April 1--June 30, 1977

Description: Eighty-four measurements (diffusion constants, BET's, or ice temperature isotherm) were performed on 17 core samples of the Lincoln County number 20403 well. Outgassing analyses were made on 129 samples for CH/sub 4/, C/sub 2/H/sub 6/, C/sub 3/H/sub 8/, O/sub 2/, N/sub 2/, and CO/sub 2/. The first step toward the construction of an automated diffusion constant/isotherm system was completed.

Glow discharge conditioning of the PDX vacuum vessel

Description: A glow discharge technique has been developed and applied to the conditioning of the large (38 m/sup 3/) Poloidal Divertor Experiment (PDX) vacuum vessel. The discharge parameters and working gas (H/sub 2/) were chosen to maximize C and O removal and minimize metal sputtering.
