Aerodynamic Configured Missile Development - Final Report: Volume 2 - Configuration Development

Description: Report presenting the results of a program investigating aerodynamic configuring as a method of improving long range supersonic cruise and maneuvering missile performance. Testing and development of non-circular body, lifting body, blended wing body, wing-body and favorable interference concepts are discussed. Substantial improvements in cruise range are shown to result from aero configuring.

Experimental Investigation of Heat Transfer to Complex Aerodynamic Configurations at Hypersonic Speeds

Description: Report discussing tests with a heat sensitive paint and ceramic models representative of an Aerospaceplane conducted in Tunnel C, VKF, Arnold Center. The purpose was to locate regions of severe heating and to obtain an approximation of the heat flux through the use of calibration spheres. The test facility, conditions, procedures, model design are described, along with an analysis of testing results.

Calculated Thermal Ionization And Enthalpy of Hydrogen, Nitrogen, And Argon At One Atmosphere Pressure In The 298-20, 000'K Temperature Range

Description: The degree of dissociation and ionization and the enthalpies of hydrogen and nitrogen, and the degree of ionization and the enthalpy of argon are calculated for one atmosphere pressure and temperatures up to 20,000'K. All three gases are more than 93% ionized at 20,000'K, and have enthalpies ranging from 553 kcals for argon to 1074 and 1225 kcals, respectively, for hydrogen and nitrogen.

The Radiochemistry of Arsenic

Description: Properties of the element arsenic which would be of value to the radio chemist are annotated. Procedures for radio activation analysis of arsenic were studied and evaluated. These procedures are appended to this memorandum. General criticisms of present methods are presented and a general procedure for the radio activation analysis of arsenic is suggested.
