0-D study of the compression of low temperature spheromaks

Description: Compression of low temperature spheromak plasmas has been studied with the aid of a O-D two-fluid computer code. It is found that in a plasma which is radiation dominated, the electron temperature can be increased by up to a factor of seven for a compression of a factor of two, provided the temperature is above some critical value (approx.25eV) and the electron density particle confinement time product n/sub e/tau/sub p/ greater than or equal to 1 x 10/sup 9/s/cm/sup 3/. Description: A solid-state precipitation process was used to prepare superconducting tapes containing an A15 phase, V/sub 3/Ga or Nb/sub 3/Al, in a ductile niobium or vanadium containing BCC matrix. Absorption of carbon dioxide in waste tanks

Description: Air flow rates and carbon dioxide concentrations of air entering and exiting eight H-Area waste tanks were monitored for a period of one year. The average instanteous concentration of carbon dioxide in air is within the range reported offsite, and therefore is not affect by operation of the coal-fired power plant adjacent to the tank farm. Acceleration errors in MBE-4 and in a driver

Description: Two different acceleration schedules have been implemented in MBE-4 and the resulting longitudinal emittance measured in each case. The question arises, whether this measured longitudinal emittance is small enough so that when scaled up to a driver, using induction pulsers of the same quality, the stringent constraint on {Delta}p/p at the final focus can be met.

Acceleration of beam ions during major radius compression in TFTR

Description: Tangentially co-injected deuterium beam ions were accelerated from 82 keV up to 150 keV during a major radius compression experiment in TFTR. The ion energy spectra and the variation in fusion yield were in good agreement with Fokker-Planck code simulations. In addition, the plasma rotation velocity was observed to rise during compression.

Acceleration of polarized protons in circular accelerators

Description: The theory of depolarization in circular accelerators is presented. The spin equation is first expressed in terms of the particle orbit and then converted to the equivalent spinor equation.
