Bamboo Instrument Song [reelruu-laa]

Description: Elders who are experts in traditional songs and dance, including Beshot Tholung of Thamlapokpi, Bunghon Suungnem of Leingangching, Shangwar Dilbung of Khuibung, and Beshot Khullar of Phaidaam perform the Bamboo Instrument Song [reelruu-laa]. The “Reelruu” a musical instrument made with a long bamboo and gourd and played for specific dance steps which are performed with this song. This recording was done during Lamkang Student Union [Lamkang Kurchuknao Kunpun] semimar at Charangching village.

My Baby's Food as told by Daniel Tholung of Thamlakhuren

Description: Daniel Tholung recites the traditional story of "My Baby's Food" which tells the story of a cockroach eating the baby's food and the chain of events that follow. The story has been written and illustrated in a book by Sumshot Khular, Tony Khular of Thamlakhuren and Sankhil Moses of Thamlapokpi. It was written in with the help of literacy experts at the Summer Institute of Linguistics.

Men and women singing and dancing "Umi Reelruu Pukee", "Raalki Song Nge", and "Akhuu-kjing Sum-khuu Kjing Sijon Tyoon Phaa Kvei"

Description: Young men and women dancers from various villages and elders who are experts in traditional song including Beshot Tholung, Bunghon Suungnem, Belun Sankhil, Beshot Khullar, and Shangwar Dilbung perform “UMi Reelruu Pukee”, “Raalki song nge” and “ Akhuukjing sumkhuu Kjing”. The group of elders sang these three songs while the dancers performed the dances performing Reel Ruu Kardaam and they ended with the Khuujin Laa where the song talks about calling all the neighbors to come home from field as the dusk had set in and the birds and animals have gone in to their nests and homes.

Parable: The Poor Boy Rich Boy as told by Sumshot Khular (Thamlakhuren)

Description: Sumshot Khular tells the story of The Poor Boy and the Rich Boy, originally told and written by Margret Leivon during the LLEC Mantri Pantha workshop in Manipur. The story is about a poor boy and a rich boy who went to set a trap. The poor boy's trap caught a deer and the rich boy got nothing but he put the deer in his trap and tried to cheat the poor boy.

Daniel Tholung reads a published traditional nursery rhyme, "My Children's Food"

Description: This record includes a full dataset generated in analysis of recording of Daniel Tholung reciting the story "My Children's Food". This was published by SIL, written and illustrated by Tony Khular, Joseph Khullar, Rose Khullar, Moses Sankhil, and Mangboi Tholung; and written for a workshop in Oct. 2005 under the guidance of SIL literacy experts at Bosco Reach Out, Guwahati, Assam, India. The translation provided by Daniel Tholung in 2010 was used, with the additional assistance of Sumshot Khular, to annotate the text at UNT in 2016.
