Neoprene and Nickel Linings : NYX Test No. 1.3.4

Description: Abstract: "Stainless steel valves, pumps, and heat exchangers were not available for NYX start-up. Cast iron and steel equipment was protected against corrosion by lining with neoprone and nickel plate. The linings failed under flow conditions and their use was discontinued. Chromate inhibitor was used to reduce rusting for the reminder of the test program."

Radiation of Pu²⁴³

Description: "The radiations of Pu²⁴³ were studied with beta and gamma scintillation spectrometers alone and in coincidence. An incomplete disintegration scheme is deduced which leads to a total beta disintegration energy of 560 kev. A half-life of 4.98 ± 0.02 hours was observed."

Total Cross Sections of Tritium, Hydrogen, and Helium for Fast Neutrons

Description: Abstract: "By using gaseous samples in neutron transmission experiments the total cross section of tritium has been measured over the energy region from 0.3 to 7.0 Mev and at the following additional energies: 14.1, 18.0, 19.1, and 20.0 Mev. A plot of cross section versus neutron energy shows a broad maximum with the greatest value of 2.5 barns at 3.7 Mev. Cross sections for helium were measured in the energy region from 1 to 3 Mev and for both hydrogen and helium at 14.1 Mev."

Uranium Deposits in Southwestern Colorado Plateau

Description: Abstract: The southwestern part of the Colorado Plateau province was studied to test results from experimental simulation of Colorado Plateau type uranium deposits and to search out additional agents influencing uranium precipitation which might be investigated experimentally.

Preliminary Report on Uranium-Bearing Deposits of the Northern Boulder Batholith Region, Jefferson County, Montana

Description: Introduction: This preliminary report is an attempt to correlate all of the available information having a bearing on the geology of the uraniferous deposits and to set forth such theories and recommendations as may be deduced at this stage.

Results of exploration at Lost Creek schroeckingerite deposit, Sweetwater County, Wyoming, July 1951-February 1952: an interim report

Description: "his interim report presents the grade and tonnage data collected during exploration at the Lost Creek schroeckingerite deposit, Sweetwater County, Wyoming, Between July 1951 and February 1952. Discussions of he geologic results of exploration (lithology, mineralogy, structure, origin, etc.) are not included in this report and consequently the detailed lithology and structure have been omitted from the illustrations (figs. 1-7)"

An Investigation of the Isotopes of Americium and Curium

Description: Isotopes of americium and curium with mass numbers less than 242 have been produced by cyclotron bombardment techniques, and several of their nuclear properties have been investigated. The partial alpha half-lives of Am(239), Cm(241), and Cm(240) and the partial half-life for spontaneous fission of Cm(240) were measured. The alpha decay daughter of Cm(238) was found and evidence for the discovery of Am(237) (an -1 hour electron capture activity) and Cm(239) (an -10 hour electron capture activ… more

Some Comments on the Fission to Capture Cross Section Ratio

Description: Abstract: An attempt is made to correlate the thermal neutron fission cross sections of various nuclides. An empirical relationship is observed when the logs of the ratios [thermal neutron fission cross section of (Z,A)/thermal neutron capture cross section of (Z,A)] for several nuclides are plotted against their neutron binding energies [binding energy of a neutron to (Z,A)]. The log of the σf/σc ratio decreases markedly with decreasing neutron binding energy."

Uranium in the Dirty Devil Shimarump Channel Deposit

Description: From abstract: Uranium ores occur in a river channel deposit of composite type. Uranium and its daughter elements segregate during migration and each has its own accumulator. The entire deposit stays close to radioactive equilibrium but individual mineral components have departures up to 1000 fold.

Aluminium Corrosion in High Purity Water

Description: Summary: "A corrosion test of aluminum components in a 4-ft. section of a fuel tube has been tested under conditions simulating plant geometry and, as nearly as possible, the operating conditions of water purity, temperature, and flow rate. Results: 1. None of the aluminum components, 63S fuel tube, 2S solid fillers and 43S spacers showed any corrosion effects beyond normal oxide film formation. This was carried out in flowing water, maintained at a specific resistivity greater than 1 x 10(… more

Preliminary Appraisal of the Carnotite Resources of the Carrizo Mountains Area, San Juan County, New Mexico, and Apache County, Arizona

Description: From introduction: A rapid appraisal of the carnotite resources of the Salt Wash sandstone member of the Morrison formation in the Carrizo Mountains area was undertaken by the U. S. Geological Survey late in 1951 in connection with its current project of geologic mapping of the area. Though brief and preliminary, this report provides a summary of production trends and estimated reserves in the area and indicates as far as possible the total potential of the area as a source of uranium. This inf… more

The Heat and Entropy of Ionization of Anhydrous Acetic Acid.

Description: Studies of ionic entropies in methanol and ammonia have led to the suggestion that ionic entropies in water are abnormally high. An explanation of this hypothesis may be given in terms of entropies of solvation and the high degree of hydrogen bonding in water. When an ion enters water, more disorder is created than when it enters another, less hydrogen-bonded, solvent.

Effect of Inositol and Octadecyl Alcohol Feeding on Lipoproteins in Cholesterol Fed Rabbits.

Description: A controversy exists as to the effect of inositol and other lipotropic agents on serum cholesterol levels and atherosclerosis in humans and animals. There is no general agreement that these agents lower serum cholesterol levels or exert an inhibitory effect on the development of atherosclerosis.,
